Without Satchmo this actually is hard. Had to go with Bix who I would follow up with Roy, Charlie, Bunny.

I went with Jabbo, since he amazes me everytime I listen.

I should admit that I'm relatively unfamiliar with Muggsy Spanier and Bunny Berigan. There's always more to listen to, and perhaps enjoy and learn from.

I went with Bix too. I really enjoy his playing. I still need to get that Mosaic set. I've been digging the Tram series on The Old Masters. I really need to hear more of this stuff.

There are some great trumpeters on this list. I feel guilty not getting to pick them too.

It's great that we're starting to talk about some earlier jazz. I don't know as much about it as some of you, but I get a great deal of pleasure listening to it.

The fact that this poll was easy for me probably means I need to dig back into this earlier period of jazz, but while I like Bix, I had no problem zeroing in on Roy. Absolutely awesome!

It would have been Henry 'Red' but - in his absence - it's between Roy and Buck. Roy by a gnat's whisker ... B)

'Hot Lips' Page would figure well up there on my list too ..

:rhappy:

Man, there are so many great trumpeters before bebop. Tommy Ladnier, Freddie Jenkins, Taft Jordan and Dick Cathcart (;)) are favorites of mine that don't get talked up.

Glad to see I'm no longer the only one who voted for Buck! It was a tough choice, but I felt I owed him the vote for all the great listening I've gotten out of his Mosaic.

Tough choice! But no voting as I know nothing (yet) of Berigan and Spanier, and not much by others listed.

The Buck Clayton Mosaic gave me many hours of listening pleasure, Roy's great anyway, this I happen to know (or think I do...) - BRING US THE COMPLETE VERVE ROY ELDRIDGE MOSAIC soon please!

Bubber Miley would be another favorite. Bix I know so far only from the two ooold Legacy CDs, so some pleasing experience waiting for me when I'll finally get the Mosaic!

I voted for Roy but there are many worthwhile candidates there. Buck is tremendous. And, unfortunately, I don't know everybody on the list and I probably should have voted for Bix, he was so influential, but there it is.
