NOTE: Moved from Politics forum.

Spent a week or so in Arlington, VA/D. C. area and missed hearing my stereo and watching my tv and dvds. . . . I had fun, but at the beginning and the end of the day I sure wish I had access to my systems and music!

I got to thinking about certain cds and dvds and realized I missed them! It was interesting to really see WHAT SPECIFICALLY bubbled up to the conciousness as being "missing"!

DVD: The one dvd that I thought of was Sade's "Lovers Live." Now I'm not that much of a movie person, that is I really LOVE movies, but there are very few movies I ever watch or want to watch more than once. I didn't miss any movie dvds, but I did miss this one which is a wonderfully filmed concert from September 2001, that showcases Sade and the band marvelously. They get deep inside grooves and moods, the music is really soothing and uplifting, the cinematography is great, and Sade is a wonderful treat for the eyes and ears.

CDS: I found that I missed hearing Barney Wilen's "Sanctuary" ---I was thinking of this collaboration of his with Phillipe Catherine and P. Danielson. . . . And I was missing Duke Ellington's "Ellington Indigoes". . . . I had listened to that before leaving, and was sort of haunted by the mood and feel of this when I was on my trip. . . I really wished several times that I could hear it and relax into that vibe. Also I missed and thought of "Concert in the Garden," which again has a relaxing and pensive mood and vibe to it that I guess I crave.

Thinking about these that I missed made me realize a little something. . . . I guess right now I need the beauty of jazz music more than the stimulation of a great upbeat jazz romp!

Anyone else find themselves missing/thinking of certain recordings or dvds when away from home?

I just miss having access to my music when on the road! Sure, you can take a few cds along, but they take up space, and you fear losing the rare ones. Sure, you can burn some, but no liner notes.....I have found that even if I take what I am sure is plenty of music for a week trip, it isn't really if you drive alot on your vacation....Always glad to get back home to a comfortable bed, your music and movies, and food! funny, one thing that I would think I would really miss on a trip is computer access, but no withdrawls at all! :o

I've had computer access on this trip, and I'm glad I did; I do miss my email most and my two boards (the other is an audio manufacturer's) somewhat.

But yes, it's nice to get home to the routine and really one of the most missed: my cat Marjorie Bouvier Haggerty Armstrong.

I bring a walkman and a couple of those CD carry cases which are light. It allowed me to take about 50 CDs when I flew to Spain a few weeks back so I was never stuck for music when I felt like it.

I usually take my own car on jaunts to Europe. One of the joys is the long drives with favourite music playing along, especially where it relates to the place you are visiting. Italian jazz in Italy, Swedish folk music in Sweden, Whack-fol-the-diddle-o music in Ireland. Marvellous.

Its nice to come home to the range of the full collection. But generally I'm too absorbed in the travelling to pine very much.
