A Lark Ascending Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 (edited) I've just got back from a week motoring around Ireland to the accompaniment of lots of Irish folky CDs (mainly CD-Rs of LPs I bought during my early 80s Irish phase!). Somehow getting the right soundtrack to a holiday can enhance the whole experience. A few weeks back I did Andalusia with flamenco and Spanish classical music. Last year it was Sweden with all sorts of Scandanavian folk. And I regularly do the English countryside with Vaughan Williams, Delius, the Watersons etc. So... What are your favourite soundtracks to your favourite places (or even what are your favourite soundtracks to help you survive your not so favourite places?!!!)? tonym Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Bev, having to drive past Can you give me some advice about what to play en route for My least favourite place on earth! Quote
JSngry Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 (edited) James Brown in South Dallas. or, on the other side of the pleasure scale... O.V. Wright in East Texas. When I leave home, I tend to just keep the player off, my ears open, and listen to the music of the sounds of places I've never been. Edited August 20, 2004 by JSngry Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 20, 2004 Author Report Posted August 20, 2004 Bev, having to drive past Can you give me some advice about what to play en route for My least favourite place on earth! 1. Leaving on a Jet Plane - Peter, Paul and Mary? Or, maybe The Watersons' marvellous 'Heavenly Aeroplane'. 2. Clearly one of those early 80s bands where pretty boys with funny haircuts played various synths over a drum machine! Being a Romantic what I had in mind was more like... Planxty...with Andy Irvine singing 'The West Coast of Clare' Quote
brownie Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 I bring ja number of azz CDs when driving away from home. But I also like to listen to the local radios. When in Spain, I tune in to Radio Classica, an excellent allclassic national radio. Or try to catch flamenco singers ans musicians... Quote

Havn't a clue who these guys were but the played for free and the (mainly local) audience went wild! Sounded great to me! Edited August 20, 2004 by Bev Stapleton Quote
