Hardbopjazz Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 Would anyone know if any of the shows are on DVD? They use to have some jazz artists on that show. It was in the 70's and early 80's on PBS. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 14, 2004 Author Report Posted August 14, 2004 Back in its day I tape a bounce of themto video. I tried to watch them tonight. The years have not been kind to the videos. Wondering if somewhere out there I could find them again. Quote
Sundog Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 It's back in production (at least it was as of last winter). It's produced here in Chicago and can now be viewed in full HD and surround which is a nice bonus. As far as the old stuff goes I'd like to help, but I don't have any of it on tape. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 Our apartment was 2 blocks from the studio. Our mailman was a student there and dropped tickets for all the jazz shows in my box. I never met the guy, but he left notes with the tickets. Saw a shitload of great musicians there. My favorite show was a 10 hour taping of a tribute to John Hammond. Everyone they could round up from Sonny Terry to Bob Dylan. Jo Jones was a hoot! Quote
7/4 Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 My favorite show was a 10 hour taping of a tribute to John Hammond. Everyone they could round up from Sonny Terry to Bob Dylan. Jo Jones was a hoot! I remember seeing that. It was a lot shorter by the time it got to the tube! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 16, 2004 Author Report Posted August 16, 2004 I found an old VHS tape of one show with Tal Farlow, Herb Ellis and Charlie Byrd. I put in my VCR, and the video fallout was real bad. A minute into the show it snapped. I remember watching the show when it aired around 1979 or 1980. Quote
JSngry Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 There were also two Down Beat awards shows, the first one pretty memorable - Rahsaan, Sonny, McCoy... I've got a reel-to-reel of an extremely amateur off-the-tube audio recording of a lot of that one. Wonder if it still plays... Quote
