marcoliv Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 for those who like MPB (Musica Preta Brasileira) and sambafunk this DVD has just been released and it's absolutely amazing! Simoninha canta Jorge Ben Jor (Simoninha sings Jorge Ben) Marcus Quote
marcoliv Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 Anybody with any ideas about where to go with Jorge Ben after "Africa Brasil"? That's one of my favorite discs, but I've been a little confused about how to branch out from there. ← Chuckyd, you should try the album "Benjor" from 1989 and of course the fabulous Acustico (Unplugged) from 2003, available also on DVD Salve Jorge!! marcoliv Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 btw, it's a very fertile period for the Musica Preta Brasileira movement Banda Black Rio is back, new bands such as Clube do Balanço or Farofa Carioca are great, Seu Jorge (no, it's not Jorge Ben) is a fantastic composer and it's about to release his second album and Paula Lima is a great singer too. Zé Ricardo is promoting his third album + a nice DVD and Tim Maia's son is releasing his debut album. O som nao pode parar Marcus Quote

cannonball-addict Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I like Caetano Veloso, Luciana Souza (A LOT), and Marissa Monte. There is a great Brazilian music/culture show at the radio station I work at, that is on the air and the web on Friday evenings from 6-7PM. You should check it out. This week they are featuring various chorinhos. It is a bilingual program (Portugese and English). Quote
