medjuck Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 (edited) The Apple Music Store has a new section called "Verve Vaults: out-of-print albums". They've got 15 offerings this week including albums from Woody Herman, Basie and Anito O'Day with the Three Suns. I can't tell if they were all originally on Verve or if any are from other labels controlled by Universal and now issued under the Verve label. Edited August 3, 2004 by medjuck Quote
Joe M Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Wow, they finally did this! Makes so much sense. They seem to be from all the Verve labels, Verve, Impulse, A&M, Mercury... Let's hope this is a success! Quote
Bill Nelson Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 And so, lacking any specifics, how would you want us to assist? Quote
Joe M Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Here's the link to the page on the Verve site with the albums... http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/series.aspx?sid=26 Quote
Eric Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 While I would love to have these in hand (literally), this news really, really KICKS ASS - good for Verve!!! Quote
Claude Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Is the price $1/track, like other music on iTunes? (I can't access iTunes from my office PC) Quote
vibes Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Good for Verve. Nice to see some of the OOP Verve Elite Edition titles in there. Lots of people still haven't heard them. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 This really is nice news, especially since they aren't just doing OOP CDs, that Anita O'Day and the Three SOUNDS was only issued as part of the Mosaic set, I think one or two tunes came out on a comp., but the full album has never been reissued on CD. Alec Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Now somebody needs to scan the covers and post them here so those who wish can print them out. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 (edited) Coming to this forum is getting me in lot's of trouble. I keep sending money. Going to signup at iTunes Edited August 4, 2004 by Hardbopjazz Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Hopefully other labels will follow in this way. Okay, you lack the album cover art and liner note for the most part, but the music is there. That is first on my list. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Damn. I was waiting for this to happen. This is good in a sense that it will be that much easier to get OOP albums, but on the other hand I think the sound quality of the music will suffer. I could be wrong about that, but isn't the music available from iTunes compressed even more than a cd? Plus we will not get liner notes or session notes, which I do read from time to time. For me it is a mixed blessing. And hasn't most of the albums offered been available in Japan at one time? Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 (edited) Dang. Just go to Boss Bird from Quincy's '..Bag' or Soul Sister from Lateef's ''84' or Desmond's lady in Cement from 'Summertime' and tell me you can't resist. Edited August 4, 2004 by Man with the Golden Arm Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 I see the disclaimer on iTunes sez that a new batch is coming in two weeks and mor added every month but these are for a "limited time only" Quote
medjuck Posted August 4, 2004 Author Report Posted August 4, 2004 I see the disclaimer on iTunes sez that a new batch is coming in two weeks and mor added every month but these are for a "limited time only" Where'd you see this? BTW When the i-tunes store first opened they asked for suggestions and I suggested this. Never got a reply and I don't even know if they really read it and I'm sure others also suggesed it, but I'm happy to take credit anyway. Now if they'd just ofer some of those Mercury Gerry Mulligans that have never been on cd. Quote

RDK Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Haven't used itunes before. Anyone know the technical specs of their mp3s? Bit rate, etc? Do you need to download a program to get like, like you do for emusic.com? Quote

Too bad you haven't filed a business method patent for this brilliant idea Apple obtains patent license from E-Data for downloading music and burning it to CD's Quote

JSngry Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 When I went to the iTunes page, it tried to install software on my computer? Is this normal/safe? Quote
jazzman4133 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Thanks for the input and info. Went there and found Meade Lux I've been looking for for a long time. Other great albums here. Process is simple, just follow explicit instructions for downloading necessary software. Quote
Eric Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 (edited) Just have your kids explain it too you - iTunes that is B-) Seriously, I've had it on my "family" computer for about six months - it is a snap to get going once you download the "client" software, i.e. the stuff that sits on your PC so you can interact with their online site and download/play/burn tunes. jazzman4133 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Found this other cover of "Cat House". Quote
Alexander Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 This is an EXTRAORDINARY program. I've already bought the O'Day and the Desmond, and both are out of this world! Any other recommendations of the titles they currently have for sale? For those concerned about sound quality, I think iTunes tracks sound very good when burned to disc. Quote
