tooter Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 (edited) Does anyone know of any websites from which written jazz tunes can be downloaded? I am thinking of the more well-known material - tunes like the be-bop standards, jazz originals that have taken hold - say like No Problem, Jordu (the bridge has always eluded me ), Bags' Groove, Milestones (both of them), Good Bait, Daahoud, Joy Spring too - there are so many. I have done some searching with Google but not much success - only found some obscure material. Edited August 3, 2004 by tooter Quote

tooter Posted August 4, 2004 Author Report Posted August 4, 2004 Yes, John - I am going to have to wait until I get broadband connection, later this month I hope. They look too big for a dial-up. Quote
1ngram Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Solos can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/andyw129/ and http://www.saxsolos.com/ Quote
tooter Posted August 4, 2004 Author Report Posted August 4, 2004 Solos can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/andyw129/ and http://www.saxsolos.com/ Thanks, Ingram - it is really tunes I'm looking for but it is nice to know the sites you've given are there. If I ever want to pretend that I'm a real jazz player I now have the means! I've tried transcribing solos before and found it extremely difficult if not impossible. To some people it comes more naturally of course. Quote
1ngram Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 (edited) Until last year there was a guy with a Sax shop semi retired in New Pitsligo up here who sold the 5th edition Real Books Volumes I II and II in both Eb and Bb He sold up after his wife died and moved back to England but told me that the books would be available from ther big music shop in Oxford (I've forgotten the name but they are nationally known - Myatts?) I bought a volume from there earlier this year so they are still available. I have the first two plus a couple of other similar books so if there is a particular tune and you cant find it tell me what it is and I will check if I have it for you. freddydwight Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) got about 2 dozen fake books, including Real Books. if you have a particular tune you are interested in, can scan it and email it, or post it here. B-) freddy Edited August 13, 2004 by freddydwight Quote
tooter Posted August 13, 2004 Author Report Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) Thank you both, 1ngram (sorry to be so long responding - various distractions of late) and Freddy - very kind of you. Some (I was going to "most" but that wouldn't be honest) tunes I can transcribe myself, particularly now I have found out how to slow the music down using "Audacity". But quite a lot still escape. As I go along perhaps I can call on you if I'm stuck. It's going to be a lengthy project so might be some time. I just work at it in spare moments, when I feel like it. I find transcribing takes a lot of concentration - some people are naturals of course and can do it on autopilot, but not me. Edited August 13, 2004 by tooter Quote
