wesbed Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 I didn't go to the dentist for 10 years. Finally, the anxiety and worry overcame my dislike for the dentist and, last year, I went to the dentist. I had no pain and knew of nothing to be wrong. It simply felt like it was time for me to go. The dentist found nothing wrong. He pleaded with me to not wait another 10 years. The dentist said it's not the teeth he was concerned about. He said teeth, with current technology, can be fixed. He said his main concern was the gums. I'm a really good tooth-brusher. However, the dentist said I was very lucky to have no problems, except for a lot of plaque buildup, after so many years of not visiting a dentist. Since last year's visit to the dentist, I've been going every six months for a cleaning (my medical insurance covers most of the cost). The moral of my story... I will continue to get regular check-ups with my dentist. I can't take the 10 years worth of anxiety again. Good luck to you. At the same time, I learned that modern dental practices are MUCH improved over those of the past. Quote
wolff Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Too bad you aren't in Brooklyn. I'm sure, for a trunk load of jazz Dmitry would take care of you. Do they use nitrous anymore? That might help Quote
rachel Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Before I had dental insurance I used to go to the Indiana University School of Dentistry for my dental check-ups and the occasional filling. Very cheap. I'm a little weird; I love going to the dentist. I love teeth cleaning, drilling, fillings, the whole nine yards. I don't mind injections at all, (I actually kind of like them...)and I find sitting in that reclined position rather relaxing. Then again, I usually fall asleep during MRI's. Quote
Shrdlu Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 The main problem is looking around at the BMW and landscaped gardens outside, and the huge, fancy aquarium in the waiting area, and realizing that you are paying for it. I was at one about a year ago, and he needs to get a more discreet receptionist. While I was waiting, she was blabbing loudly on the phone to a friend and mentioned that her boss goes overseas for a vacation every month. In his case, the BMW was actually an Alfa-Romeo. I also found out that he's a Freemason. I went back to my previous one next time, even though he's a lot further away. Quote
7/4 Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 I also found out that he's a Freemason. What's your point here? Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 shrdlu wants to make sure he can keep his dentist after the "rapture". Quote

sheldonm Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 I'm not a big fan of the dentist although I go three times a year for check up/cleanings. There are many other things we all probably endure during the year that are worse than dental checkups! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Never been. Never had health insurance until now. Gotta go sometime. I'm scared but I know I have to go. Quote

7/4 Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Never been. Never had health insurance until now. Gotta go sometime. I'm scared but I know I have to go. I remember when I was in my 20's, I'd go for long periods without seeing the dentist and I'd have dreams about my teeth falling out. Just what you want to hear, eh? Quote

If it was a car it would be totaled and sent to the junk yard. Besides my meager dental benefits from work, I found a supplemental insurance(Dental Health Services) that saves me $$$$. I think they are in Cali, too. Look for something similar if not. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 the visit/x-rays were free i paid about $25 for the vicadin and penacillin. spelling on both why would anyone want to stick their hands in someone else's mouth for a living is beyond me. the tooth they say is in good shape and in the back next to my wisdom tooth could this affect my love for a steak? could removing a tooth cause the surrounding teeth to go crooked and or maybe shift? ss1 Quote
