MG It's a special kind of recording I think, and needs to be appreciated in the context expressed in the liner notes. When is Soul Connection coming out on CD? Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 For some reason, this thread doesn't open properly in my browser (Firefox 2.0.0.12). Quote
andybleaden Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 blame Bill Gates....he never dug John Patton...was always a freddie roach head so I heard On a serious note...my browser opened it ( mind you I am trialing the Beta version 3 .4) Quote
robertoart Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 blame Bill Gates....he never dug John Patton...was always a freddie roach head so I heard On a serious note...my browser opened it ( mind you I am trialing the Beta version 3 .4) That's not entirely true. Gates used to worship Big John but never forgave him for hiring James Blood Ulmer and has had a vendetta against him ever since. Quote
Niko Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 just thought i'd mention this briefly after the grant green tv disappointment, i found it interesting but i guess that's disputable... in that thesis on patton it's mentioned he was a songwriter/session musician/otherwise involved for dionne warwick (?) and for the shirelles on scepter records... now according to this credit listing (similar also at the library of congress data base...) http://www.discogs.com/Shirelles-Will-You-.../release/664249 patton is the composer of "voice of experience", "big john" ( ) and "putty (in your hands)" , the latter being somewhat of a standard actually (covered by the yardbirds, you can hear it here http://www.lastfm.de/music/The+Yardbirds/_...n+Your+Hands%29 ) Quote
robertoart Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 2) Are you sure the unissued DIW session is forthcoming? Bertrand. The original post by Soulstation is almost 5 years old, and I don't know that he's going to post on the board any more. If it's forthcoming, it's had a long gestation! Or is the session "This One's For J.A."? There have also been references to a third unreleased DIW session on this board somewhere. Was there a third DIW session that remained unreleased? Or was this the 'One For JA' session? Quote
bertrand Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Patton's widow told me there was a third session. It has been a long time since I spoke to her. Is Ed Cherry on both? I could ask him since we are FB friends, although we have never met Bertrand. PS - it may be listed in Lord. Edited June 9, 2013 by bertrand Quote
robertoart Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Ed Cherry is on both DIW releases and plays superbly. Gee those two DIW Patton's are brilliant. Such a great feeling on those. Could the third one be the Blue Planet session perhaps, which wasn't released on DIW? Edited June 9, 2013 by freelancer Quote
Stefan Wood Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 No, it is a completely unissued session. Quote
robertoart Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 No, it is a completely unissued session. Actually is this session with George Freeman? In the back of my mind I remember seeing discog info about this.... Quote
