Matthew
Benny More Y Su Banda Gigante, Grabaciones Completas: 1953 - 1960 put out by Tumbao Cuban Classics. For some reason, I continually return to this box set, and each time, I get such enjoyment from it, that it's the top box set for me now. king ubu
Duke Ellington Centennial Edition (RCA) The Complete Lester Young (Verve) Billie Holiday 'The Complete Lady Day' (Columbia) John Coltrane 'The Complete Classic Quartet' (Impulse) John Complete 'The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard' (Impulse) Art Pepper 'The Complete Village Vanguard Sessions' (Contemporary) and very soon: The Albert Ayler box (Revenant) That's some goodies! All high on my list, too! Then add: Coltrane, Heavyweight Champion AEC Cecil Taylor, 2 Ts for A Lovely T Monk, Riverside Bill Evans, Riverside Sonny Rollins, Prestige & RCA Mingus, Atlantic Ornette, Atlantic ... Don't think I rate the Mosaics much higher as the others, in general. However, it's the only company with such a big number of generally great sets! ubu
sidewinder
The Roland Kirk Mercury and Clifford Brown Emarcy are probably top of my list - both absolutely wonderful !
king ubu
I'm waiting for the Ayler Revenant box too! I also want the John Coltrane 'The Complete Classic Quartet' (Impulse) box. Before you spend the money on that one, be aware that the Deluxe editions that came out after the box (Ballads, Coltrane, Love Supreme) have additional material that's not in the box. Also, you won't get the few live items (half of the At Birdland album, the Newport '63 album, and that track that is available on Quartet Plays..Chim Chim Cheeree etc). Nevertheless, that set is one of my favourites. A few others, that I consider to be non-Mosaics: all of the great Miles Davis boxes, of course! Love each and every of them! ubu

Jazzmoose
The two box sets I seem to return to over and over are Ornette's Beauty is a Rare Thing and the Art Ensemble box from Nessa
Chuck Nessa
The two box sets I seem to return to over and over are Ornette's Beauty is a Rare Thing and the Art Ensemble box from Nessa Thanks Mister Mooster! They were released around the same time and tended to cancel each other out in the "best of the year" polls. I was flattered by the competition. wolff
Without a doubt my favorite is The Jimi Hendrix Experience 8LP box put out by his estate a few years ago. Everything is super high quality from an era long gone. The rare photos and notes and music keep me occupied for hours.
