Also, not on any time-limit, there are a couple good Andrew Hill 'audio' things here too...

http://www.andrewhilljazz.com/index2.html

First, go to the "mp3's" link, on the left side of the page, for a 5-part (hour-long total) solo piano performance from Hill, recorded sometime in 2000 or 2001 (in London).

And, there's a 3-part (hour-long) on-line BBC documentary on Hill, with a couple vinyl-only tunes and lots of great interviews, click the "press" link on the left side of the main page.

Enjoy!!

Andrew Hill is in the UK this month with an 'Anglo-American' Big Band including some great up and coming Brits...watch out for Jason Yarde everyone!

I expect to see them at the Bath Festival on Saturday, 24th May.

Jazz on 3 often broadcasts these concerts at a later date.

the solo London concert is phenomenal.  I wish he would update his site with more live tracks as time goes by.

:)

Great, I was there that night and never expected to hear a recording of the proceedings. Thanks for the tip !

Half of the concert was in duet with Archie Shepp, although the solo recital was to me the highlight.

Hill got a very warm ovation after this excellent performance. One of the best jazz concerts in London over the past few years IMO..

The Bath gig should be fantastic ! :excited::party:

Just listened to the programme. Good interview and an excellent selection of music. Andrew picked out the album 'Grass Roots' as being very typical of the feel circa 1968 and influenced by his home surroundings at the time around 106th and Central Park. Lee Morgan and Booker Ervin seem to be particular faves of his (the track 'Venture Inward' was played). Interestingly, he confirmed that one reason for the switch to solo recitals in the 70s was simple 'lack of human resources' who could actually play his music.

Special mention of the UK gigs next week as well, including London, Manchester and Bath !

:rhappy:
