Brandon Burke Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 I'm waiting for the Eightball figures.... Quote
PHILLYQ Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 jazzbo, When I see those figures I think of a show I used to watch with my son that was on Nickelodeon called 'Kablam". One of the segments on the show was called 'Action League Now', and featured action figures very much like the ones you pictured here. It was quite a hoot. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 25, 2004 Author Report Posted July 25, 2004 When I see these I think of the early sixties when I was a kid and there were G I Joes and there was the start of some of these type of figurines from DC and Marvel. . .and I thought "Oh my Gosh, this would be like playing with DOLLS!" and steered way clear! I never thought they would catch on but I see so many "action figures" in supermarkets and drugstores that I guess they have. Some of these sort of remind me of the only TV show I got to watch every now and then in Ethiopia: Thunderbirds. Now there's a movie coming out of Thunderbirds! It's almost as if my inner preadolescent fantasy world is becoming movies lately with all the comic book movies, King Arthur, Troy, tv remakes, etc ! Quote
JSngry Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 . .and I thought "Oh my Gosh, this would be like playing with DOLLS!" and steered way clear! That's how I felt about Richie Cole! Seriously, I had a C.I. Joe, the first one, that was a "regular sized" doll, not a scaled down figurine. It was cool compared to all the "500 for a Dollar" little green toy soldiers available at the time - this cat could EXECUTE! But the coolest thing about it was when I had a babysitter use Joe & my sister's Barbie to act out a stag flick.... Quote
maren Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 I always thought she was the coolest! Have you posted her on the BABE thread??? Quote
jazzbo Posted July 25, 2004 Author Report Posted July 25, 2004 I believe I may have posted her film counterpart actress on the babe thread! Actually, what I dug about Marvel Girl was . . .her mental powers! Honest! Quote
JSngry Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Yeah, that booty is working on MY mind! Quote

jazzbo Posted July 26, 2004 Author Report Posted July 26, 2004 I like Crumb; I recently reread his "Comics Journal" inteview which is very good, less unsettling in a way than seeing the movie. . . which IS unsettling, to me at least. That statue. . . good Gott. . . is there a whole series!? Quote

That's a great film. I really like Terry Zwigoff. Regardless, I hear what you're saying. And frankly I'd be worried if you didn't find it unsettling... Edited July 26, 2004 by Brandon Burke Quote
