Vegas, baby!

Hey folks. I'm going to Vegas in a few weeks for a friend's wedding (don't ask). When I was there before, I found a great record store that had a ton of old BN wax, and that's what I'm hunting for this time. Does anyone have any recommendations? It's not your typical "destination" for a trip to Vegas, but I'm sure some things get pawned there!

Not sure what record store you are referring to, but I've been to Big B's, the selection is not bad.

I had really good luck about three years ago at the Virgin store in the Ceasar's Palace "mallway". . . quite a bit of out of print things in the jazz section at that time, just a-gathering dust.

Appreciate the link to the LV record stores, Catesta. Anyone been there recently, and if so are any of these particular stores more "worth" a visit on a limited schedule than the others?

Record City is okay, but every location differs in specialty (genre/format). There's a big Tower that's better than average. There are also a couple of vinyl-specialty stores, if that's of interest.

Big B's become a Big Bummer lately.

The old 24-hour Wherehouse/Odyssey is gone.

Is it still true that the vinyl stacks at Record City are a great place to pick up showgirls? B-)

My DJ friend's response, FWIW:

Depends on what genre you are looking for. Hip-hop/rap/funk soul rarities...I would say the Hip Hop Site on Maryland Parkway (across from the University)

just up the street is Big B's. Great for all-around stuff. New and used Rock/Indie vinyl as well as CD's. Some funk & soul gems on occasion.

We have a string of "Record City"s around town, mostly picked over crap, but you never know. And numerous thrift stores and swap meets.

Just got back from Vegas last night. Had a great time, and about broke even at the blackjack tables. Saw Dana Carvey live at the Mirage on Friday night - he was great, and did alot of his old impersonations - Church Lady, both Bushes, Kerry, even Ross Perot. And he did a great bit with both Arnold and Teddy Kennedy about how they probably banter with each other at family get-togethers.

I had luck at some of the Record Citys (particularly the one at 300 E. Sahara), and Big B's as well. I'd recommend checking them out to anyone that might be headed to Vegas. Unfortunately the Virgin Store at Caesar's Forum is closed now. The Tower store was pretty decent too.

I picked up way too many cds, but here are a couple that stand out to me:

Update: Big B's appears to be out of business. The Towers are, of course gone. Several of the Record City's have closed too; three left, I think. Zia's is on the up-swing.
