wolff Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Rivers Buy now: $140. Isn't this a good price? Quote
wolff Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Posted July 14, 2004 BTW, I can't get it. Thought someone else might want it. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 If this one had overseas shipping, it would be gone in an instant. The vinyl version is recommended by the way, I strongly prefer it to the CD version of this Mosaic. Quote
Dmitry Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Gone. $140 + $20 for shipping makes it $32 per LP. Still a good deal, I think. Those Rivers Mosaic LPs sound much better than the corresponding cds. Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Gone, and that is a great price for a mint set. It's been above $300 many times. Quote
wolff Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Posted July 14, 2004 Gone, and that is a great price for a mint set. It's been above $300 many times. That's what I thought, but I see it so rarely I wasn't sure. I'd have been all over it if the music budget wasn't shot. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Really like the mastering of the 'Contours' session on this LP set - I'll bet the NY USA version sounds just wonderful. 'FSS' is good on the Mosaic but even better on the NY USA. Great set though, nevertheless ! Quote
sidewinder Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I'd have been all over it if the music budget wasn't shot. I admire your self-discipline ! Quote
Dmitry Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Gone, and that is a great price for a mint set. It's been above $300 many times. That's $60 per LP. Quote
wolff Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Posted July 14, 2004 Really like the mastering of the 'Contours' session on this LP set - I'll bet the NY USA version sounds just wonderful. Yep, it's in my top 20 or so, but it's the only BN Rivers I have on vinyl, so I still want to get this set at some point. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 The version of 'Dimensions and Extensions' in this set is the best one out there. The Q-LP format is also great. Quote
jazzhound Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I looked hard at this one, but I rather have the originals at that price. Any more then 140 is too high. Quote
Dmitry Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I looked hard at this one, but I rather have the originals at that price. Heck, I'd have the originals at that price too. If anyone can point me where the original Rivers BNs can be had for $30 per record, I'm there. Quote
jazzhound Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 the stereo versions can be had in the 20 to 50 dollars range depending on condition. If you just need a listening copy, you can get a vg one for 15 to 20. Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I would guess that the Mosaics are equal or superior to the original pressings, except maybe for Contours and Fuschia Swing Song. Mass produced vinyl was getting pretty noisy toward the mid- to late-1960s. Clearly for half or more of this set, the Mosaic is the only audiophile source, and many people are unimpressed with the CD sound. When Groove Yard and the JRC see this set, they say it always goes for big bucks, believe me I've inquired. Quote
Leeway Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I think it was a pretty good buy. However, with the individual vinyl issues, you get the original cover art, in "full size," which is kind of cool. Of course, that's always a potential "drawback" (if such) with Mosaic sets, but it seems more apropos with vinyl. Also, I do prefer the original vinyl to the reissue vinyl. Quote
