I love a guy that could play with Bill Evans & Albert Ayler with fully equal weight, power, awareness of role, and integrity. Cat coulda been dead 50 years ago and still had that on him.

Fortunately, not dead 50 years ago, nor not dead today.

Even more fortunately, weight, power, awareness of role, and integrity still alive along with him.

80 and still going strong, playing over here with the "Now This" trio. Wonderful.

When I started buying jazz records and exploring beyond the (free jazz) classics, I was often led by bass players and drummers. Gary Peacock was among them.

Happy birthday.

There was an excellent, long interview with Peacock in Cadence back in (I think) 2001. Very memorable; interesting recollections of his varied career. Hope he continues for many more years.

Happy Birthday to a great bass player for all time. We have so much of his music to enjoy and celebrate. My only regret is that he spends so much of his time and talent playing with that guy Jarrett.
