Believe it or not, these two sculptures are folded from a single sheet of paper. They were created by Dr. David Huffman, a pioneer in the application of math to the art of origami. These photos originally appeared in the NYT; I've meaning to post the article, but can no longer do so without paying.

Here's the first paragraph:

On the mantel of a quiet suburban home here stands a curious object resembling a small set of organ pipes nestled into a neat, white case. At first glance it does not seem possible that such a complex, curving form could have been folded from a single sheet of paper, and yet it was. The construction is one of an astonishing collection of paper objects folded by Dr. David Huffman, a former professor of computer science at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a pioneer in computational origami, an emerging field with an improbable name but surprisingly practical applications.

The pictures make me wonder how big the piece of paper was that was used? A regulare piece of letter paper? A large piece of construction paper? Just wondering.
