Grrr... I know what you mean. The night of the 4th, when I got into my car after getting off work, all ready to go out and imbibe, the car battery died. :rmad: Had to get a jump start, and drive it directly home before it crapped out. A day and 100 dollars later, and it was up and running again, supposedly with a battery that'll last 72 months.

FWIW, it's a 2002 Mazda 626, and I haven't had any other problems with it yet. I have to say, though, after living in NYC for six years, I really dislike needing to own a car to get around. It's like this big, annoying, expensive child without any of the good parts of having a kid. Boo. And it's really not that convenient - the other day I decided to drive to the shopping center across the street to get a smoothie... because of traffic on the road between my house and there, the whole trip ended up taking 20 minutes. Hooray for convenience!

We bought a new Subaru Forester in January. Just recently the other car, a '97 Buick, was starting to get a little unpredictable, and since I've got a bunch of driving to do this summer I decided to get rid of it, and got a second Forester. The Forester has been a great vehicle, which I hope continues 'cause we've got two of 'em now!

Speaking of repairs, I was going to get the Buick registered (this preceeded the decision to get rid of it) and had to get an inspection. Took it to a Goodyear and figured it would breeze through. Lo and behold, the guy came out and said it needed like $1,000 in repairs. I was immediately suspicious and took the car to my mechanic who found NOTHING wrong. I tell you, having a mechanic you can trust is about as important as a good doctor or dentist.

I took my car (a 1997 Plymouth Breeze) to a Goodyear store to get some tires. While it was at the shop, the manager showed me the brakes and suggested that I should get some new brake pads. The car did need brakes so I had the Goodyear shop do the brakes along with the new tires. Hmmm... three days later the Goodyear shop couldn't get the brake pads back in place. The Goodyear shop had to take my car to the Chrysler dealer to have the Chrysler mechanics do the brakes. The Goodyear shop lost money on my repair job. MORAL OF THE STORY: don't take your car to a Goodyear shop for anything but tires.

SS,

I have a 2000 Civic also, 53,000 miles, and not a whiff of trouble yet.

How many miles when you're radiator crapped out?

Posted

my civic "hx" has 55,000 miles on it.

the thermostat broke and caused alot of funkin' problems

what type of civic do you own, did you buy it new?

want to race?

my problems with the car so far

radio/cd player would go to volume level 47/48 everytime you'd play the thing, had to be replaced. it was a jensen cd player

the driver side door wouldn't open with the alarm button

the a/c blows hot and cold air, hopefully this is fixxed now.

also i can't afford the payment

I got your basic LX (the one with power equipment but no sunroof), with the five speed, new.

I replaced the standard radio unit with a CD player, the only problem with it is the fact that the button for changing the time is fukked up, so half the year the clock is one hour behind.

No alarm so no problems there.

And the best thing: the three year note was paid off in September of last year ... and not to make you feel bad, but my monthly payment was $140.00 (I put a lot of cash into it and only financed like $5000).

i can't afford the payment even if it was $1.

i was in abig time accident before thanksgiving and my '91 civic was totalled.

the '91 had damn near everything replaced, the parts mainly from old age

i got it in 2000 with 27,000 miles for $4100, i got about $3800 for it after it was totalled

my accident

the other guy(drunk) ran the stop sign and went around someone else who was waiting at the stop-sign. i smashed into the side of his van and his van flipped over and hit a telephone pole. he kicked the window out and ran home about two blocks from his house. i was the "second guy" this jackass hit and ran that night.

this accident costs me about $240 a month.

$205 for the payment and about $35 more in insurance.

i am still working on getting my $$$$ back for going to have my knee looked at.

Someone broke into my car in the school carpark a few months back - a screwdriver in the door to prise the lock. They found nothing inside but left a clear hole by the lock.

Cost for repair? £351 (about $620)!

Because we live in the land of no-fault insurance! That way everybody pays no matter if you're the drunk driver or the person who's legs got broke because of it! God bless America!

the night of the accident i didn't even know if the guy had any insurance.

i had to go through my insurance FIRST and they went after his insurance

if you are in a accident and it ain't your fault it will cost you, trust me.

shit, i had too pay around $200 out of my pocket for the car rental.

in arizona after the car is declared a total loss, the insurance doesn't have too pay for another day of a car rental.

so i had too get a car quickly

i was driving home from work the sunday befroe thanksgiving to watch the sunday night football game and missed most of the game

i'd never slammed the brakes on, so funkin hard in my life, i might of been killed if i didn't slam on the brakes. the way the other guy was driving, he just didn't give a fuck about anything

i was heading north and he went around a stopped car at the stop sign and was heading from my left to my right.

this jackass was driving a mini-van and i remember watching the baby seat flying all over the back of this van in S L O W motion after it flipped and praying there wasn't any kids in the van

plus to top it off he was a packers fan

That is the horrible truth- no fault is everyone's fault. In Brooklyn, if you get in an accident, even if it's not your fault, you fall into the black hole of 'assigned risk'. this means that now your insurance will go up at least 20%, and in many cases much more than that. The poor suckers getting robbed are people like SS1, who's doing the right thing and gettin' screwed for it.

i must have the worst fucking luck of all time

check this shit out,

last night after a few beers at my local pub, a friend noticed my tags on my license plate had expired. i'm like "wtf", it's good till march 2005, he's like ok but those say march 2004. needlees to say, i wasn't too happy. i've been drving around with expired tags for four months.

then i head up the motor vechiles place, they say i gotta pay a late fee and my tags are expired. the bill came was $165.00. i didn't even get the new plate until 2 months after i bought the car and then the tags are good for a month. in arizona you get a notce saying that your tags need to be renewed and give us some $$$$$$$. i never even got the paperwok in the mail. they said that the place i bought it should of told me. sorry sucka!!!!!!

Be glad you don't have a VW. That's all I can add to this conversation. I love my VW, but I hate the fact that it spends more time in the shop than in my driveway.

You do have it better than in Chicago, however. State sticker, city sticker and neighborhood sticker are all yearly expenses. I have to deal with this on two cars. Uggh...
