Most Underrated Recordings in Jazz History

Recommended Posts

spontooneous:

Thanks, I like that one too!  Most under-rated is a hard question, by who?

Certain artists and certain albums get a lot of buzz on this board. Everyone already knows Trane and Miles and Duke and RVGs on Bluenote and this and that. I'm looking for discoveries made by you in the course of your own investigation of jazz music, especially if your selection lies outside the jazz canon.

But I have run against too many deaf ears when I try to push some historic (Eastern) European stuff

Well my ears certainly perked up when I heard Ianci...and at 10:30 am precisely, I'll be passin' the love to someone else's ears. ;)

you're a kind soul and will be rewarded either in this life or in the hereafter.

Maybe something to hunt down for you: Zoot Sims - In A Mellow Tone, pretty cool stuff from the tenor master with our main man Körössy at the ivories. I got it pretty cheap through some vendor that told me it was all directly imported from the US, so that should be easy for you (and don't put too much value on the negative slant of AMG on Rick Bell ).

Can you post an image of the CD's front cover?  There's always the chance of finding it used.

I was afraid someone would ask for a picture. ;) Here it is, from my scanner to you.

Here's a bigger one:

(courtesy of Amazon France, the disc was available there half a year or a year ago when I got it from them, but it's not listed anymore now)
