Big Al Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I was so tickled to see all these Chicks CD-smashing parties. Until I found out it was because of something that lead Chick/airhead said. I couldn’t stand the Chicks before this whole “controversy” started. This little statement has garnered them more publicity than anything else they’ve ever done. And people are surprised they’re not shying away from all the attention? Hard to believe country music fans wonder why they are mocked! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 I heard an interesting radio debate about why it was ok to play the Chicks song about driving around with Earl (dead) in the trunk, and "Gangsta' Rap" was bad. Quote
Ed S Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 I could not care less about the Dixie Chicks, what they said or what they are now doing. They always have and always will irritate me. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Never heard them, myself. But I have to wonder if they sold as many CDs as the Beatles sold LPs after Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" remarks...betcha at least some of those smashed discs were bought specifically for that purpose. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 I like the Dixie Chicks - unpretentious pop-country with zing. It ain't Webern but it's great music for washing the dishes to or hoovering the front room! Quote

Tjazz Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 The Dixie Chicks are great. All of their albums are worth getting. I'm sure if Miles Davis or John Lennon were around, he would have made a comment about the war or President too. Big deal. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 (edited) I'm sure you might be able to hear it at about 4.00 a.m. in some beer joint in Austin! "Ladies and Gentlemen, please place your hands together for 'Twelve Tone Country in a Ten Gallon Hat'" I'm sure Lyle Lovett would give it a go! [if he's any sense I've just provided him with his next CD title!] Edited May 11, 2003 by Bev Stapleton Quote
