Tom Evered to post at AAJ

Wesbed, It was foolish of me to start specifying individuals when there was certain to be others who thank AAJ for their hospitality. In addition, Lon is among those who post at AAJ when they find a topic of interest.

What irks me more is that whenever the world of jazz boards in general is discussed, there are those who seem to feel obliged to take an almight dump on AAJ, as if they by doing so they reassure themselves of their smarts in preferring somewhere else. Of course, it's a free world, at least in this respect, so there's nothing in the world to stop 'em if they feel so inclined

I agree with you - it behooves us really to support all these initiatives, regardless of the differences in approach or philosophy. But again, each to his own.

Back on topic: Who of the mighty Organissimo Army would really want to have a regular Tom Evered thread here? One of the real blessing of the BNBB Demise seems to have been that for many us of BN has become just another label, albeit a Very Excellent one!

I think it would help a lot if you would just stop pointing that out in so many words.

Interesting...

Unlike some similar looking bulletin boards, I have never manipulated the number of posters or any of the stats you see at the bottom of the opening of JC. I don't care about the # of posters we have. I could up the # right now to 5,000 or 10,000 if I wanted. I could suggest you all have multiple screen names... that's not how I pursue advertising or clients.

Yet AAJ is where the Organissimo junkies go when this board goes down - just hopping on when with their in-jokes and smugness and little grace whenever it suits them and then flitting off again without so much as a farewell, with the always honourable exception of JSngry.

Lookout! I know what you're saying. And, I agree to a point. There are many more posts that don't give thanks than those that do. But, some of us are trying to remember to be considerate and appreciative while using the AAJ site.

wesbed gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

Brad gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

7/4 gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

JSngry gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

In addition to some well-meaning threads I started at AAJ about the Django Mosaic, the Elvin Jones Mosaic, and my Saturday Morning Breakfast. ^_^

It should not be Organissimo versus AAJ. Rather, Organissimo and AAJ versus the world. There aren't many 'good' jazz discussion boards that I can find on the internet. Three or four? Maybe five or six at the most? We need 'all' the jazz boards to do well.

Agree with this.

I also posted thanks:

Organissimo is my forum of choice. I wish I had more time to post more at AAJ. I do when I have time and have something to contribute to the threads there...

Hey, I offered "a form of thanks" to AAJ/Mike Ricci, too! But do I have to do it everytime I go there??? That would seem kind of obsequious to me. And, correct me if I'm wrong -- AAJ does seem more of a public business venture than here, for instance.

(Where I think it's time again to say THANK YOU to Organissimo the band, collectively, and Jim A. individually.:wub::wub: )

For whatever it's worth, I check their site fairly frequently. I like some of the interviews and feature articles. I find most of the reviews to be rather fluffy, so I don't put much stock in them.

Re: their forum, I *much* prefer this one. This one seems like a bunch of good friends hanging around a bar swapping stories (and talking a little trash) and that one just seems a little sterile and forced at times (hey, what shall we discuss today?).

My "thankyous" might have gotten lost in the attack, but PLEEEEAZE let me join that group hug, too

My feelings about the reviews on AAJ are similar to Chucks. There are exceptions, I think, but far too few. Some of the interviews, articles of "fireside chats", though, are quote good!

Curious, since I haven't been over to JC in ages, but what site was Lois bashing and why?

I'm guessing it's AAJ. The "most users ever on line" total at AAJ suddenly rose sharply in May 2004.

I read somewhere on JC that Lois and Ricci had a fight some time ago, but I don't know the details.

The material I quoted appears on page one of an Alley thread entitled Banning, Deleting and other sundry subjects. (I'd give you a link but that never seems to work with the JC.)

I thought that was because of the new software... people checkin' in to check it out.
