We should expect his first post sometime around the middle of September. I hear if you post a question before that, AAJ will not allow you to post the next time this place goes under. So tread lightly.

I'll accept this as being excellent advice. My first board of choice is Organissimo. However, I don't want to burn bridges or create badwill at AAJ. What would be the point?

That Evered notice has the smell of ego all over it. Really, of all the unmitigated gall (as they say)! Not blaming XRICCI- he's doing what he can for his site. But Evered knows that the BN faithful" are concentrated here, yet he chooses to blow us off. Frankly, it bugs me.

Leeway says: "That Evered notice has the smell of ego all over it. Really, of all the unmitigated gall (as they say)! Not blaming XRICCI- he's doing what he can for his site. But Evered knows that the BN faithful" are concentrated here, yet he chooses to blow us off. Frankly, it bugs me."

Seems a bit of a stretch to me.

This board may contain the greatest single concentration of former BNBBers.

Combined with AAJ and JC and wherever, it may even constitute the single biggest block of potential BN reissue customers.

Bur Evered's role as businessman - not as a buddy orhardcore jazz nut - would seem to require a broader approach.

I say that as someone who is far from being a fan of many recent BN signings and releases.

I'm also curious if the moderators of this board asked Tom to host his own thread, which I assume is what Mike did at AAJ. Not saying that it's right the way he handled the situation, or right that he hasn't chimed in over here, just that I'm pretty sure his decision to participate in AAJ wasn't an intentional slap in the face to anyone here.

Could be wrong though... I often am :-p.

We've created something just as good if not better over here

Agreed, but that's DESPITE Evered and BN. THEY wanted to punish us by closing the BNBB. B3#er stepped in heroically and made this site work for us. But Evered dismissed us like stray dogs.

Who gives a damn where Tom is or what he is doing?

I don't give a dman where he is, but I do give a damn what he's doing, as what he does affects BN tremendously, and jazz in general. That he chooses to cut himself off from the many BN loyalists here shoudl tell ya something (and it isn't good).

Seems a bit of a stretch to me.

This board may contain the greatest single concentration of former BNBBers.

Not sure where the strech is, as you say yourself, this board "contain the greatest single concentration of former BNBBers." That's exactly my point, which I thought was clear enough. That's why it's insulting that Evered and the rest of BN management chooses to continue the attitude they displayed near the end of the BNBB. :tdown

Best suggestion of all.

Who gives a crap about Tom Evered?

Or the old BNBB for that matter. We've created something just as good if not better over here.

Let sleeping dogs lie...

Exactly. Great discussions happen on this board (as long as you stay outside of the political forum, where you seem to be attacked if you are anything but left of left....) and I enjoy AAJ for its reviews of shows, CDs, and general info.

Please - AAJ is way too close to the industry/commercial thing. They're bedfellows with every kind of sponsor and every link is hooked into the company website.

The appeal of the old Blue Note board was that it wasn't a corporate tool (despite who was hosting it). And that's what the appeal of this place is, at least to me. It's just grass roots. The best things on the Internet always have been. Anytime something gets a little too corporate, it's all downhill.

For Christ's sake, AAJ has a "mission statement" that declares themselves "the central repository for jazz content on the web" (fyi, my own site is just "a repository") and blathers on about their "unique position" as an Internet publication. Egads, how unique! Anything AAJ does is "the" or "the best" or "the only" - but in reality, they're nothing special.

What was that Italian phrase of Jacopo Belbo's?

Ma gavte la nata.

Mike

What Mike said.

AND please don't be a "stupid high schooler". Tom E is more a friend than enemy.

Grow up, let the old board go and move on.

Any negative responses (from us) to Tom on the AAJ site will reflect negatively on this group.

Please act like an adult.

If it's all business, no wonder he doesn't post here: This board is fun!

I didn't say it's all business (as a reading of my post will testify), and surely it's possible to combine business and fun.

For fuck's sake, if you don't like AAJ don't go there. Simple.

BTW, I can not recall hearing any snide putdowns of Organissimo at AAJ. Unlike here. Pathetic. Yet AAJ is where the Organissimo junkies go when this board goes down - just hopping on when with their in-jokes and smugness and little grace whenever it suits them and then flitting off again without so much as a farewell, with the always honourable exception of JSngry. Grow up. :P

I completely agree, so I do not visit AAJ, but I thought the reason that you don't hear talk (positive or negative) about this board over there was because they banned mentioning any other bulletin board. I guess that's one way to be "the only" one - just declare it unilaterally.

Mike

Mike that may me be the case, but if so it is unintentional - whatever ban there was, it's my understanding it was based more on lengthy speculation about the fate of Organissimo when it was down by those who are Organissimo regulars. There is now space allocated there for just that purpose.

I am one of those who feel quite happy here, at AAJ and JC - there are quite a few of us - and I just don't feel the need to profess undying loyalty to a website, let alone doing so by slagging off the "opposition". No big deal, though. Internet jazz is a really swell part of my life, but it's only a part.

But I still find it a little icky that every time these issues are discussed at Organissimo there are those who feel the need to jump in and slag AAJ, even when - as is most often the case - the thread involved was never started with that purpose in mind.

Lookout! I know what you're saying. And, I agree to a point. There are many more posts that don't give thanks than those that do. But, some of us are trying to remember to be considerate and appreciative while using the AAJ site.

wesbed gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

Brad gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

7/4 gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

JSngry gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ

In addition to some well-meaning threads I started at AAJ about the Django Mosaic, the Elvin Jones Mosaic, and my Saturday Morning Breakfast. ^_^

It should not be Organissimo versus AAJ. Rather, Organissimo and AAJ versus the world. There aren't many 'good' jazz discussion boards that I can find on the internet. Three or four? Maybe five or six at the most? We need 'all' the jazz boards to do well.
