My German is hopeless so I'd just be the one grinning and nodding (providing I've got a beer in my hand).

I would think English will be the language of choice.

And anyone can order a beer by pointing and grunting.

That's how we Germans do it.

Cheers!

[Any wine drinkers coming? Or am I going to be the only one? [alternative: gin tonic etc.]]

P.S.: The whole thing will be on a weekend, won't it? I think I can make it on practically any weekend from late Friday afternoon until Sunday, later evening.

7 to 8 hours by train from where I live. Anyone ever been there? we need to book a youth hostel or something, and have a place with plenty drink and good athmosphere.

I have passed the youth hostel age limit several decades ago. Is there a cool place for the elderlies in Darmstadt :P

couw is just being considerate of the people with limited funds, like himself... -_-

Count me in as one of the youth hostellers. Hope you aren't obliged to do a "friendly chore" in German youth hostels.

I'm an elderly Frenchman. Wine - red or white - is beverage of choice. But I have no restrictions regarding other alcohols!

When I was of youth hostel age, alcohol was sort of verboten in those type of places. But this may have changed :P

Weekend would be fine.

These will do for starters. A pint of 'Gandalf' in the first and maybe Watney's Red Barrel and a cigar served up in the latter? Murphy's at the two leprechaun hangouts.. :D
