EKE BBB Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Who speaks Spanish? brownie, you do! ... I just include some of the spanish words I know from time to time. It's supposed to make me sound smart but I'm just dumb! Quote
rockefeller center Posted June 23, 2004 Author Report Posted June 23, 2004 I wasn't too serious about France so I'd like to suggest we meet in Kermouster/Bretagne. Quote
JohnS Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Where are the UK members? Let's here from you. Quote
vajerzy Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 It's refreshing reading posts from people in Europe and surrounding areas showing that not everyone on the board is from the US and Canada. Amazes me how the internet brings people from other countries and continents closer together! Quote
king ubu Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 (not that ubu would know of anything to do with such things as mountains - no sports is the one thing I have in common with Mr. Churchill (other than thinking the use of chemical weapons against uncivilized tribes in Iraq is a good thing )) ubu Quote
sidewinder Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Zermatt sounds good to me :rsmile: JohnS, can you make it out there ? Quote
tjobbe Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 I guess the French would invite, even! Where to meet if not in Paris ok.. so I'm in Paris since yesterday now... guys !!! where are you.. No Organissimo (the European Section) sign found neither at Gare du Nord nor at the hotel...) man... will do another try in a month ... Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
David Ayers Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 I am up for it depending on - all sorts really...! How about Paris, which is very central? Alternatively a night at Ronnie Scott's for UK members plus others? Keep me posted and don't do anything without telling me! Quote
JohnS Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 (edited) Sidewinder, Zermatt sounds fine but I think a trifle extravagant for my slender means. I was hoping for something in London or the south of England for UK members (plus any others) though I could probably be persuaded to spend a day or so in Paris or Brussells. mikeweil Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 The first two weeks in September will have me and my wife sunbathing on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Otherwise ... I remember someone suggested my place, as I am located somewhat in the geographic center. Well, I guess next in late summer our little creative center will be more or less finished, so we would have a larger room to do a live Blindfold Test ... accomodation is not too espensive in the towns near by. Of course I would love to go to Paris, if there is a cheap place to stay ... I hope to meet king ubu in person on occasion of a Zurich gig in July - we will decide then Quote
tonym Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 I would be up for anywhere really. I have just 'tuned' back in after a week of modem problems, hence the silence. Later in the year sounds great, UK, mainland Europe, whatever. I like a nice drive. Quote
brownie Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Up. 'cause this went to a fast start and now it seems to be at a standstill. If we have to organize a meeting would need to know who, when, how long, also how much? I am ready to go wherever it's convenient for the majority. Preferably not in September. Place would have to be a central location easily accessible by road/train. A one-day affair might be a bit short. Two days would be fine. Suggestions welcome! Quote
rockefeller center Posted July 2, 2004 Author Report Posted July 2, 2004 How about Darmstadt, GER? http://www.jazzinstitut.de/ Quote
brownie Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Darmstadt, that's just south of Frankfurt/Main. Not a bad idea at all. Would the Jazz Institute accept invaders for a couple of days? Quote
couw Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 7 to 8 hours by train from where I live. Anyone ever been there? we need to book a youth hostel or something, and have a place with plenty drink and good athmosphere. Quote
catesta Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 and have a place with plenty drink and good athmosphere. That should be easy at a youth hostel. Quote

Anyone ever been there? we need to book a youth hostel or something, and have a place with plenty drink and good athmosphere. A friend of mine told me that Darmstadt is neat. mikeweil knows everything about Darmstadt. Quote
couw Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 mikeweil knows everything about Darmstadt. wow! Quote
king ubu Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 mikeweil knows everything about Darmstadt. wow! this is cool - I ask him anything when I meet him on sunday... seriously: I myself have no money to travel right now, and if I had, I ought to do something with my girlfriend, first of all... sad student's life Quote
brownie Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 7 to 8 hours by train from where I live. Anyone ever been there? we need to book a youth hostel or something, and have a place with plenty drink and good athmosphere. I have passed the youth hostel age limit several decades ago. Is there a cool place for the elderlies in Darmstadt Quote
neveronfriday Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 (edited) Darmstadt sounds cool. How about we meet and launch the Basie site? And yes, I'd be more for a place other than a youth hostel. After all, we have to party in style. Cheers! [P.S.: I need 1 hour to Darmstadt from where I am]. Edited July 3, 2004 by deus62 Quote
sidewinder Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 This Darmstadt idea is definitely cool. Isn't that the place with the huge repository of rare jazz films? Not exactly the easiest of places to get to from SW England but I guess shuttle flights to the Ruhr are fairly frequent and not too pricey. JohnS - That comment on Zermatt was more of a wish than reality! Great place but you definitely need barrow loads of dosh out there and well out of my league.. Quote
tjobbe Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 (edited) Darmstadt is not the worst idea although it lacks in regards of class compared to Ohhh, Paris... if I'm not off because of my job, there should be no probs for me attending, 2h drive thats it... cheers, Tjobbe @sitewinder: check if there a cheapo flights with Ryanair to Hahn which might be beside Frankfurt itself the closed link. Edited July 3, 2004 by tjobbe Quote
tonym Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 Darmstadt looks good. How is it for cycling? There looks like there could be a few nice roads down there. Plus I could come via the Vosges if I had time. My German is hopeless so I'd just be the one grinning and nodding (providing I've got a beer in my hand). If any UK boardmembers would like picking up en route I'll be coming down the country probably. Quote
