doubleM Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Long story short, I play trumpet with this group called March Forth (whose name comes from the fact that we sometimes do march, and that the first gig was on 3/4/03). It's a 30+ piece band that I mentioned once before in an earlier forum. 11 horns, 10 drum/percussionists, the rest are dancers, stilt-walkers, jugglers, fire-dancers, etc.. We do everything from Klezmer, to Monk, to Duke, to Bulgarian music. So, imagine my surprise when I got this message last week from our tenor player telling me that we have 3 ampitheater gigs coming up: 1. W/ No Doubt and Blink 182, which already happened, and Gwen Stefani is a serious minx/bambi. 2. W/ KISS/Poison--neither of whom I've ever really listened to, but w/t/f...and 3. W/ Fleetwood Mac. I actually dig some of their stuff. We will of course be playing Tusk. So, it's not like tables with cocaine and groupies everywhere, or free anything (we got 1 16 oz. soda ticket each! ). But I can now add these shows to my resume, or omit from, depending on the need. Feel free to make as many jokes as you wish, as I enjoy the good ones. See you all there!?!?! Quote
rockefeller center Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I would like to hear an audience recording of the entire night. Good luck! Sounds like you'll be having fun. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Werd! I opened for Lynard Skynard once with my R&B band. I think our lead singer and bassist were the only two black dudes within a 20 mile radius of the stadium that night. We also opened for Kool & The Gang once. That was fun. Quote
Joe G Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Werd! Is that a combination of "weird" and "word"? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Werd! Is that a combination of "weird" and "word"? No, it's a dialectical spelling of "word". Only up-tight people say "word". Hipsters say "werd". B) Quote

Big Al Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I thought Gene Simmons said KISS was retiring. You mean he lied? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 i just found out, kiss played in phoenix on friday the line-up Paul Stanley and Gene $immons, and replacement guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer ss1 i still want an orignal kiss pinball machine Quote
RainyDay Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I've seen No Doubt once at the Greek in Berkeley, and they really rocked. They are actually better live than on their records. A really kick butt band. And Gwen can sing. There aren't a lot of girls in rock that I care for very much but Gwen is baaad. Opening for them was the Blackeyed Peas, who I liked better then than now. And another rock band whose name I forget. Crap. They're local too and made it big for about 30 minutes on the national scene. Lit. Boy, were they LOUD. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 the boyfriend of the manager of my fav bar is a huge kiss fan (he wants the kiss coffin with the side car for her) i just finished talking with her about the concert i somehow knew they'd gone to the phoenix show. they were in the front row. my sister asked if it was loud, a kiss concert loud???? they bought a double cdr of the concert for $25, they were available 15 minutes after the concert. that is amazing to me, she said she'd let me borrow the cds ss1 Quote
doubleM Posted June 23, 2004 Author Report Posted June 23, 2004 Well, I'll have to ask my bandmates if they were loud, good, etc.., 'cause right after our second set (after Poison and just before KISS), I had to bail to a softball game. Poison bit the almighty chode!!! (sp?). Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Poison bit the almighty chode!!! (sp?). Some things never change... Quote
