Swinging Swede Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Has anyone seen this before? Apparently it's a very rare Japanese promo CD on which Cuscuna narrates and plays bits of various Blue Note recordings. Something to reissue, perhaps? Quote
wesbed Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 This CD cover looks odd. Reminiscent of something AfricaBrass or couw would create. I intend my remark as a compliment to AfricaBrass and couw and to their creativity on this board. They've created much eye candy in the last several months. I only wish I had the same knowledge and skill. Quote
Shrdlu Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 A great April Fool's cover, SS! They say that Michael got the BN 1577 T shirt from Naima Coltrane for the photo. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I have this. Someone in Hong Kong sells them regularly on eBay. The funniest thing is that because Cuscuna has the original "Blue Trane" photo, he saw that Trane is actually sucking on a lollipop in the picture, not a reed like everyone thought. The guys in Japan tried to get Michael to use a reed in the shoot and he told them it was a lollipop. On the back of the CD, it has artist listing: Michael Cuscuna, diskjocky; Blue Note Records, music; Julius Keilwerth, sax; Lollipop, candy Later, Kevin Quote
brownie Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Will wait for the Mosaic Select of this Quote

Very interesting, indeed. I always thought there was somethihg odd about the shape of Coltrane's mouth and the item in his hand. I never knew it was a lollipop till it was revealed here. I'm always learning something about jazz from the Organissimo board. Quote
