Alexander Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 This is a question that every music fan has to have addressed at some point during his or her life. What music would you like to be listening to when you die (assuming that you're dying at home, in bed, or at least somewhere with a stereo)? For me, I'd like to go out listening to "A Love Supreme." How about you? Quote
JSngry Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Nothing - too distracting. GOTTA STAY IN THE MOMENT BAYBEE!!!!! Quote
king ubu Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 For me, I'd like to go out listening to "A Love Supreme." Love Supreme - my very first thought while reading the title of the thread. ubu Quote
king ubu Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Possibly Pops. . . and Sade. Quite a cool combination! Why not ask some DJ-friend to do some "interpolations"? ubu Quote
king ubu Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 And what about "Last Exit"? The title at least would be fitting the occasion... Quote
catesta Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I don't think I would be happy going out with anything less than a compilation of some of my favorites. Quote
John B Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 something like Kenny G or John Tesh, so that death wouldn't seem so bad after all. Quote
catesta Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 On second thought. How horrible would that be if we spent eternity having to listen to the last song we ever heard over and over again? Quote
Aggie87 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I like your choice, Alexander. Not sure what I'd pick, but that would definitely be a strong contendah. Just curious though - since you're atheist, is that some sort of bet-hedging at the last minute? Quote

Dan Gould Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I like your choice, Alexander. Not sure what I'd pick, but that would definitely be a strong contendah. Just curious though - since you're atheist, is that some sort of bet-hedging at the last minute? Only if you belong to the Church of John Coltrane. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Seriously, my mother wants me to cue Kenny Loggins' "This Is It" at her funeral? I'm perplexed as to honor this. Quote

wesbed Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I'd want to hear Frank Sinatra singing New York, New York. If somebody must play something mournful, then some of the New Orleans Jazz funeral music. Quote
jazzypaul Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 the super dark, ultra morbid guy in me wants to say Curtis Mayfield's (Don't Worry) If there's a Hell Below, We're All Gonna Go. But really, what I'd want is enough time to be able to listen to Speak No Evil, The Sorcerer, White Light/White Heat (singing along to Sister Ray would be a helluva way to go out), The Smiths' debut album and the first disc of DKV's Trigonometry. That I could live with. Or, in the case of this thread, maybe not so much... Quote
RainyDay Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 (edited) I have this Woody Allen-like fear of death. I don't want to discuss what I would want to be listening to for fear of conjuring up the Grim Reaper. Or fear of being held to whatever I choose today. What if I say "Flamenco Sketches" today and then at the actual time decide I want to hear "Cisco Kid, Was a Friend of Mine"? You see the dilemma. Please note that someone else has hijacked my handle and is posting badly misspelled words in my name. Edited June 21, 2004 by RainyDay Quote
DTMX Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I don't want to hear anything. I want to die peacefully, in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers. Quote

maren Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 You're right, Alexander, kind of morbid, but it got me thinking. If I'm laying around in a bed, lingering, I hope somebody I love is there singing to me, or playing an instrument. Quote

mgraham333 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 While I die..... Assuming a single song and the dying starts when the song starts and ends when the song ends, what I would choose would depend upon the manner of death. If I'm going out while making love to a super model I think I would choose something like Jimmy Smith's The Sermon which clocks in at 20:10. If I die by being burned alive I think something like The Theme (Track 8 from Disc 3 of Mile Davis' In Person At The Blackhawk: Complete which clocks in at 9 seconds would be my choice. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Mosaic Commodore Vols 1 to 3 just to drag things out, then the New Orleans Atlantic set disk 1.. B) Quote
