mikeweil Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I enjoyed reading about Brubeck's life in the liner to the 4-CD box on Columbia and would like to learn more. Is there any Brubeck biography or even autobiography? Thanks! Quote
brownie Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Mike, I have not read that one and it does not look like it is currently available: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1...9017822-8782253 There is also a chapter on Brubeck in Ted Gioia's 'West Coast Jazz' that is pretty interesting. mikeweil Posted June 25, 2004 Author Report Posted June 25, 2004 there's a biography available at the local half price books. if you are interested, let me know. Thanks for the offer - but since it is the early California period I am interested in, I think i will go for the Gioia book, maybe this has some about Tjader too. Quote

mikeweil Posted July 29, 2004 Author Report Posted July 29, 2004 Thanks, Brownie, for recommending the Gioia book - got it today, and find it much better than Robert Gordon's "Jazz West Coast". Has some about Tjader too, as I suspected. Quote
medjuck Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 I bought a copy of his new solo record playing war time tunes and there was a bonus disc with a one hour interview by Walter Cronkite about Brubeck's war-time experiences. Really interesting. Quote

Jazz Kat Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I enjoyed reading about Brubeck's life in the liner to the 4-CD box on Columbia and would like to learn more. Is there any Brubeck biography or even autobiography? Thanks! There was a special on PBS about Brubeck's life, past and present. Very enjoyable. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) Meanwhile I started reading Hall's book (you see it took me a while to finally get around to it), but am a bit disappointed - it could go more into details, for my taste, and its frequent digressions from strict chronology are distrcting me. I ordered Storb's book. Edited April 21, 2011 by mikeweil Quote
gmonahan Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Doug Ramsey is writing one now. Mike That's interesting. I've always wondered if there was ever any kind of manuscript from Desmond's intended autobiography, _How Many Are There in the Quartet?_ Always thought that was a fun title (based on a true story). Desmond was apparently a very funny guy. gregmo Quote
mikeweil Posted May 9, 2011 Author Report Posted May 9, 2011 Ilse Storb's book is OOP - used copies are rather expensive, so this will have to wait ... Quote
