Vincent, Paris Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 There's a bunch of new DVDs from Rhapsody Films listed on Disconform website. Most of them looks very interesting but are unknown to me : > link <. Anyone have seen any of them? Can recommend any? Thanks. Quote
Tjazz Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I have the Portrait of Pee Wee Russell on videotape, it is fantastic. Dan Morgenstern talks about him and knowing him towards the end of his life and the focus of the film is on Russell's painting which to me was very fascinating. There is definitely some Stuart Davis influence to his painting. And during the film you also get some commentary from Russell himself! I am not exactly sure the film on the DVD is the same as the film I have on tape but the titles are the same. And lastly, thumbs up for Sweet Love, Bitter, and great soundtrack! THis Pee Wee Russell is on DVD? Quote
JSngry Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Last Of The Blue Devils is a classic. 'nuff said! If the Criss thing is the same club date with Teddy Edwards and Sweets Edison (sic) that I saw some video footage of, it's freaking AMAZING. The Elvin thing is kinda short but very sweet. The Jacquet thing is quietly eloquent. Very nice film, and fully recommended. Have yet to see the Evans thing, but those in my circle who have speak of it in the highest possible terms. If Rhapsody is converting to DVD, wacht for Raise The Bandstand, a documentary about Steve Lacy. Great, GREAT stuff! Quote
Vincent, Paris Posted June 19, 2004 Author Report Posted June 19, 2004 Thank you, guys, for your comments. I may order a few of those DVDs from Disconforme before they go out of print. Quote
