JSngry Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Bobby was TV-Ready, and Jack was just a Good Ol' Boy w/a Weber (and a restaurant....), but if I'm eatin', I'm goin' to Jack's. They did another grilling show, w/Bobby and "guests", that mocked the very concept of Grillin', much less Chillin'. Foo-foo all the way. Now they're bringin' the show back, still all Bobby. BOO! BRING BACK JACK!!!!! Quote
jazzbo Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Wow, if either Bobby or Jack came back, Dubbya would shit a brick! Quote
Joe G Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 It was the first association that popped into my mind... Quote
JSngry Posted May 31, 2004 Author Report Posted May 31, 2004 You guys don't know about Grillin' & Chillin'? Oh boy, is my work NEVER finished? Two guys w/grills, totally unscripted. Bobby Flay's the city slicker w/the gas grill, Jack McDavid the good ol' boy with the Weber. A cult classic on the Food Network, ran for a few summers, but as Flay's star rose, they ditched it (and McDavid) REAL quick, which sucked, because Jack was the real deal as far as grilling goes ("Aw Bobby, your food don't have no FLAVOR 'cause you use that gas. GOTTA use the charcoal for it to taste good!"). But the show was a HOOT because both guys had great ideas and recipies, and I swear they were both half-loaded (Jack probably MORE than half...) while taping the show. VERY loose, and fun galore, even if Bobby was obviously outcooked by Jack. But now that Bobby flay's a "celebrety", they've TOTALLY lost the original show, and Jack McDavid is "relegated" to doing a tailgating show for Comcast SportsNet: http://www.thetailgateshow.com/show.htm , hardly the ticket to stardom. OTOH, his cohost Heather Mitts is a somewhat of a babe, so hey.... Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 It was the first association that popped into my mind... Same here! After seeing some asinine "news" article concerning who you'd rather barbecue with, Kerry or Bush, I just assumed... Quote
Upright Bill Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Bobby doesn't grill, he does girly sauces and and dainty finger dishes. Real grilling involves charcoal, some fire spice (chunks of hardwood to make some smoke, best when they come out of your own backyard or wood shop). A propane grill is just your kitchen stove moved outside. A real grill is a 55 gallon drum cut length-wise with a cast iron rack. I have two pork butts in the fridge right now resting up for their 10 hour trip on my grill tomorrow. Homemade BBQ sauce. Pulled pork at my house tomorrow afternoon. Quote
Upright Bill Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Come on over. Joe's bringin' the beer! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Dude, I would totally haul my B3 and play that shit tomorrow for some food. I'll bring Sweetpea and Mini-Pea as well.... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 ... but since we just got back from a weekend in Manistee, I doubt my wife would be up for the drive. And we bought $600 worth of antique furniture in Manistee that I have to go up and get sometime this week. Quote
rachel Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I love Jack McDavid; I used to watch that show religiously. I could hardly endure Bobby Flay then, and even moreso now. It seems like everyone agrees that Jack is the real deal-- so who the heck is voting for Bobby Flay? Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 You'll be driving right by here. I'll save you some. Yum! I gotta figure out something to do tomorrow... you got a grill, Joe? Mine is at my brother's and I ain't got the truck to go get it. Quote

minew Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I, too, dig Jack. Also dug Bobby's other sidekick, Jackie. Could do without Bobby, Emeril, or any other food channel star. Dig Chris Kimball, though. Quote
RainyDay Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I'm a Tyler Florence person, myself. I love his "ultimate" shows and the "911" series. Besides, he's cute! Has anyone watched any of the "The Restaurant"? This reality show about the startup of a new restaurant was on Bravo last season and moved to NBC. I caught part of two episodes the other night and discovered that Rocco has turned into a real idiot. This guy doesn't want to run a restaurant, he wants to be a rock star. He fires his chef so he can spend more time in the kitchen to straighten things out. Instead, he's having his photo taken with customers, getting bombed, and asking some dame if her boobs are real. What a clown. The media attention really went to his head. I think his investor is going to fire him. The most disgusting thing was watching him make food without washing his hands. Wearing a pizza dough on his head then proceeding to cook it. Cooks sticking their fingers in food to taste it then touching other food. I may never eat out again. Yuck. Does anyone else out there NOT get the Iron Chef? I even watched the ones with Bobby Flay and Mario and like it only a little bit more. Adore the gal who does 30 Minute meals and eating on $40 a day. And love Unwrapped. Now I'm hungry. We need to start a TV food thread. I could go on about this stuff forever. Quote

Love Tyler Florence! He seems very down to earth; right on about him being a total honey. Also love Rachael Ray-- she makes me think I could do anything in the kitchen.. (except I'm way more talented at watching the Food Network than actually putting anything into practice...) Never got the Iron Chef either. It just seems bizarre to me. Barefoot Contessa is another one that I like to watch. She seems like she would be fun to hang with-- she's always making up some big ol' pitcher of cocktails. Also a double right on about Zora being about the cutest baby in the world. Everytime I see her pic I start "baby talking" to my computer. I just want to kiss on her. Quote
JSngry Posted May 31, 2004 Author Report Posted May 31, 2004 If I hear Emeril mispronounce jalapeno one more time... Quote
Upright Bill Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Did you ever notice that Emeril burns alot of his dishes? Rachel Ray is cute. Very cute Quote
JSngry Posted June 1, 2004 Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 In his own house, Emeril might have some chops, but on TV, he is a poser. Quote
