Jim Alfredson Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Now here's the ultimate conundrum... is Poison the poor man's Def Leppard or is it the other way around?!?! Quote
Joe G Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I'm afraid we shall get thoroughly entangled if we follow that line... Quote
Shawn Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Actually Trower was a pretty awesome musician in his own right. There's some great stuff on his 70's records. Saw him in Seattle quite a few years ago, Al Hendrix was at the gig and came up to the stage and introduced Trower. A killer show. Of course the Hendrix thing got him started, but he developed his own voice. Actually, the poor man's King's X is Alice In Chains.... Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 So, was Black Oak Arkansas the poor mans Grand Funk, or was it the other way around? I mean, you'd have to be poor either way... I don't think they were poor except for perhaps in the musical ability department. Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Now here's the ultimate conundrum... is Poison the poor man's Def Leppard or is it the other way around?!?! Perhaps they were both the poor man's Guns N' Roses. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Kingdom Come*: the homeless man's Led Zeppelin. *or Whitesnake, Great White, White Lion, Billy Squier, ..... ( Great White Lion Snake?? ) Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 This has turned out quite bizarre! Yeah Like Boston!!! Quote

rachel Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Now here's the ultimate conundrum... is Poison the poor man's Def Leppard or is it the other way around?!?! Actually, I thought Poison was the poor man's Motley Crue. But where does that leave Warrant? Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Warrant-perhaps the poor man's Blue Oyster Cult? Quote
couw Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 is that Golden Earring or Golden Earrings not that it makes a heck of a lot of a difference to me Quote
Uncle Skid Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 What has 9 arms and sucks? --Def Leppard! I always thought that Blind Cheetah was a *much* better group. They KICKED ASS! Quote
rachel Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 and golden earring? B) They are a less obscure Nantucket. Quote
Joe G Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Actually, I thought Poison was the poor man's Motley Crue. I swear to God I was going to say the same thing! It must be true. Quote
rachel Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 (edited) Actually, I thought Poison was the poor man's Motley Crue. I swear to God I was going to say the same thing! It must be true. Either that or Motley Crue actually is Poison ( when they want to "feel pretty"). Motley Crue Poison Edited June 1, 2004 by rachel Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Warrant-perhaps the poor man's Blue Oyster Cult? So that would be the band with less cowbell...? Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Rush were a radio-rock joke, just like so many other bad American bands selling records. They helped feed the beast of the lowest common denominator, classic rock FM. I had a college roommate from Sheboygan, so I know a little about bad taste in rock music. Quote
chuckyd4 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 (edited) "Begin the day with a friendly voice.... a companion unobtrusive Plays that song thats so elusive... the magic music makes your morning mood...." Both what is great and so unashamedly corny about them.. And I remember reading an interview a few years back with Geddy Lee (the bass player /singer for those blissfully unaware) where he was talking about how he thought they were getting "funkier" (his word) as time goes by. Said something to the effect of "Hey... we're middle aged white Canadians... there are a lot of obstacles" Still cracks me up. Edited June 1, 2004 by chuckyd4 Quote
chuckyd4 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Some of the most hellaciously awful lyrics in rock history... Quote
Shawn Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 If Rush was part of the "lowest common denominator" at that time in history...what perchance was the alternative? Disco? Mid-late 70's pop music? Quote
Joe Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 True story -- I picked up an old Commodore 64 PC (for 5 bucks) at a garage sale about 6 years. The individual who sold it to me even threw in a bunch of accessories, including a tape drive and some tapes for info storage. To my surprise, the tapes were not blank, but still had some old files on them. It seems that the young man of the houe circa 1982 practiced his BASIC skills by writing nothing but programs related to Rush. One was a Rush discography, another was a Rush "quiz", and so on. Man, did that make we want to pull out a copy of SIGNALS and sit down to explore the world of ZORK... "be cool or be cast-out" indeed... Quote
