Hi everyone,

I just made the switch to Opera after simply having gotten tired of that Firebird/fox/dog and the IE thingie.

All I did was really make Opera my default browser, since I have just about every browser for development purposes on my system anyway.

Before I start rooting around in the Opera forums, I know there's a whole bunch of people here using Opera.

Question: I've already configured quite a bit of Opera, but one thing has thus far escaped me: if I login to this forum, as soon as I close the window or Opera, it forgets that I'm logged in. Somehow, I assume, the cookie is deleted although I want ti to stay active.

So, how can I stay logged in with Opera / where do I set what to achieve that?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers!

P.S.: I also seem to have a problem marking text and making it bold, for example, by simply then clicking on the bold button. Is that not possible in Opera?

Ask Claude for the why, but no, it's not possible.

You got to hit the "B" button, then type the text you want to be bold, then hit the "*B" button (or click "Close all Tags"). Or you just type the stuff yourself, or you do these things at then end, copying the (B) and (/B) things to where you need them.

check your cookies settings under File - Preferences - Privacy

having the machine ask you whether you want the cookie or not is my favourite option (Display Received Cookies), you get to dynamically set up the cookies you want and do not want and the machine will remember. Just like in newer versions of Netscape I believe (?).

this board uses some tricky stuff that's not entirely Opera nor Netscape friendly (unless Netscape caught up some time ago, long since I used it), so you have to align your thought in bold and italic before you start typing and hit the appropriate buttons while you're at it. And you wondered why so many people were still using that *ancient* thing with the stars....

welcome to the club, get those mouse gestures in your wrist and you're in for a real surfing treat.

I can live with the added lesser problem of having to hit a button.

What I'm sick and tired of are those other two browsers, the Fire thingie and the MS thingie crashing without any obvious reason, etc.

Opera is simply more stable and that will save me more time than I need to hit a button twice.

Cheers!

Congratulations, Deus.

The most recent Opera version is 7.50. 7.xx is really rock stable and works with 99% of the websites I know. One site that causes problem is AllaboutJazz, which only works if "Identify as MSIE" is chosen in the Quick Preferences.

As for the cookie problem, you should check the Privacy settings. Maybe the "delete new cookies when exiting" is activated.

The other issue (formatting text) can unfortunately not be resolved, as far as I know this is a IE-only function that is not in conformity with web standards.

hit F12 for those quick preferences.

Opera 7.50 is the best version yet!

I've been using Opera since version 4.x. I used to require IE to get some websites to work properly, but now that's a rare occurrence (My browser identification is MSIE 6.0).
