So who`s having sex with the hen? Mr Ross: "They`re all chickens. The rooster is having sex with all of them." Frank: "That`s perverse!" Frank: "Don't you see? Something's missing". Mrs. Ross: "Something's missing alright!" Quote

BERIGAN Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 ... One I just thought of recently (and he's my current Avatar), was Steve Landesberg, who played Detective Arthur Dietrich on "Barney Miller". His totally dry (and I mean DRY) sense of humor, and delivery, crack me up to this very day -- although I rarely see Barney Miller any more, nobody ever seems to show it any more. ....... Rooster...first season has been out a little while.... Quote
BruceH Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Richard Brooks, as the deputy assistant district attorney on the early Law & Order. He was on for the first couple of seasons, I think. They haven't had a man in that role since. June Lockhart. One of the great mother-role character actresses on TV. Maybe its just the nostalgia talking, but she was great on Lost In Space and Lassie. Martin Starr as Bill Haverchuck, Jason Segal as Nick Andopolis, and Joe Flaherty as Harold Weir (the father) on Freaks and Geeks. The whole cast was great, but those three really impress me, right now at least. Quote

ghost of miles Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 fonzie just "jumped the shark tank" on tvland ss1 Such a legendary episode now! Man, I remember how worried everybody was in my fifth-grade class about Fonzie's motorcycle jump (was that the end of season two?). By the time the shark jump came about... well, "Happy Days" had already jumped the shark. Quote

Shawn Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Well since this topic includes film as well, I'll go that route. Claude Rains - Even though he had plenty of starring roles in his career, he will always be remembered for incredibly juicy supporting roles. This man played so many unforgettable characters. As the head of police in Casablanca he managed to steal every scene he was in. Unforgettable as the corrupt senator in Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. One of the great villains of all time in Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious. Claude could do no wrong and brought such weight and depth of character to every role he played. More later... Quote
BruceH Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Good one, Shawn! Speaking of film, how about Thomas Mitchell, one of the great Hollywood character actors from the 30's to the 50's. He was in Stagecoach, Only Angels Have Wings, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Gone With the Wind, and High Noon, as well as a couple of Capra's better-known films, namely, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington and It's A Wonderful Life. A dependable, always convincing actor. Quote
RainyDay Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Jack Elam. He was such a great villain and he did comedy surprisingly well too. Quote
ralphie_boy Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 One of the great villains of all time in Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious. Great role! I was watching this last night on TCM. Quote
Dave James Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Notorious is one of my all time top 5. A perfect movie. I have always been totally and completely smitten by Ingrid Bergman. I can't help myself. Agree with everything that's been said about Claude Rains. And don't forget his pivotal role in the original Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr. He brought a dignity to the proceedings that the film itself probably didn't warrant. Rains was like Cary Grant in a number of ways not the least of which was his background and his ability to create a character that become not only what he did on screen but how he lived his life off it. Up over and out. Quote
