Hardbopjazz Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 I will be at their show Thursday. Did anyone catch the first night? I was wondering if they were on? Some reports from members here say Jackie and Grachan have lost their chops. Hope not! I wish the 3 would do an album together. But with Jackie and Grachan both not signed to a label, I guess not. bertrand Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 Hardbopjazz, I will be there Thursday as well! Hope we can hook up. Bertrand. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted May 26, 2004 Author Report Posted May 26, 2004 (edited) Which show will you be at? Edited May 26, 2004 by Hardbopjazz Quote
robviti Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 jackie may "on" or he may not. i'd be very surprised if anyone can honestly say the same for moncur. he hasn't had the chops for many years (i don't think he was ever a very good improvisor). btw, don't ask jackie if he's white until the end of the show. you'll be disappointed if you're thrown out of the club before then. Hardbopjazz Posted May 26, 2004 Author Report Posted May 26, 2004 I envy you That one of the perks of living in NY. The jazz still flies high. I will give a full review of the show. Quote
bluesForBartok Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 Anyone going tonight? I'm gonna try to catch the second set. Quote
bertrand Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 (edited) I'll be at both shows on Thursday (who knows when I'll get to see Jackie again - he only plays in NYC and Hartford). I'm 6'2 with a reddish beard and glasses. I'm also going on Friday. What can I say, I'm a Jackie nut. I have a unique opportunity to crash for free in my father's hotel (he's up there for a week for a physics conference), so I decided to go for it. As for the chops issue: I saw Jackie in 2000 at the all-star gig with Hutcherson, Hill and Higgins (the 3 h's). Jackie's playing was superb. I know he's been ill in the last couple of years, but my gut feeling is that if he knew he wasn't up to it, he would not show. Moncur is another story - I only expect he will play on one or two pieces, not the whole set. I know to be prepared. Through another site than that of the Iridium, I found out who the rest of the band was: Rene McLean (multi-reed), Alan Palmer (p), Nat Reeves (B) and Eric McPherson (d). Bertrand. Rooster_Ties Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 (edited) I'm 6'2 with a reddish beard and glasses. Are you black or white?? (Wait, we'd better save that question just for Jackie. Better to not piss off more people than necessary, I always say. ) Edited May 26, 2004 by Rooster_Ties Quote
