mikeweil Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 Biggest shock in the answers- that "Baltimore Oriole" was by the Four Freshmen. I thought it was a gag at first. Just not at all what I would have expected from the FF. At any rate, I thought the arrangement was interesting, but repeated listened only empasized the fact that I hated the lead vocal on this. Sounded like the guy was constip... oh, never mind! Just like the German proverb: "one's owl is the other's nightingale"! Quote
Jim R Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 I also have a list of a few recommended albums/box sets that I'll post for anyone interested in this kind of stuff... R&B? Me three! BTW, Ray, I stumbled onto a reference to a musician (jazz pianist) name Jimmy Neely, so you were sort of onto something there. Not sure how "Big" he was, though. Quote

take5 Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 not to bad this time I guess, but I'm again following Mikes golden BFT rule: there is always one you have but didn't recognize... Tell me about it. I feel so ashamed for instantly spotting the Mingus tune. In my defense, I hardly ever listen to Mingus albums where he doesn't play bass (so yes, that includes Oh, Yeah). It's just kinda "wrong" to me. Quote

Anyway, there is a Jimmy Neely (recorded one LP circa 1962). A trivial gag gone very, very wrong... Quote
.:.impossible Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Damn. I tried logging on last weekend to post my answers, but was unable to get onto the site! I have a few sheets of paper with my responses to each track on the first disc and never got around to posting them this week. I'm feeling like a freeloader. This was a good one! I love that Baltimore Oriole! Quote
