brownie Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Saw this Teddy Edwards 'Three Tenors' album with the Claude Tissendier band release in the Paris stores today: http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000...8150727-7992154 Tissendier is a saxophonist who has been playing for the past several years with the Claude Bolling big band. He also leads small combos and has recorded albums that featured his Saxomania group with Benny Carter, Phil Woods, Guy Lafitte among others. Have not heard the Teddy Edwards Three Tenors CD yet. It was recorded in Paris in 2002. Quote
EKE BBB Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 brownie: I saw Tissendier in Paris about three years ago, in my last trip to Paris(*) He played with his Quintet, featuring another saxophonist whose name I can´t remember. It was a very good concert, in that small, uncomfortable, but lovely Caveau de l´Huchette in the Latin Quarter (excuse me if the spelling is not accurate). Great blowing! (*)Hope I´ll have more Paris dosis soon, I return there whenever I can. Quote
John L Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 I caught Teddy Edwards in a quartet at the Sunset in Paris on that 2002 tour. He was in tremendous shape, and played for a full hour and a half. I was astounded. That was one of the best concerts I have attended in recent years. Quote

I'll put that disc on my list! What would I give to have heard and seen Edwards! Hell, I was born too late! ubu Quote

Just had a quick look at the album when I dropped by the store. Could not find details yet on the web about this release. John L., I missed the Sunset appearance by Teddy Edwards in 2002. Bet he played 'Sunset Eyes' there. Caught him at the La Villa club several years ago. He was magnificient! Obviously enjoyed playing in Paris. I heard a radio broadcast of another Paric concert appearance with Tom Waits. Quote
John L Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 (edited) Come to think of it, that Sunset concert must have been in 2001, if not 2000. At any rate, it was tremendous, and Teddy Edwards continued to play very strong until the end. So I am grabbing anything new from his later years right away. He certainly did play "Sunset Eyes." He introduced it as "something that he wrote and played with Clifford Brown." Edited May 25, 2004 by John L Quote

Wish I'd ever seen Teddy live! ubu Quote
