Big Al Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 The three posts prior to my last post (talking about the Hampton, Parlan, and Turrentine boxes) remind me that I need to get those..... SOON!!! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Don't forget - get the Hampton, Parlan and Turrentine boxes soon. MG Quote
Tom 1960 Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 Disc 2 of the Stanley Turrentine Mosaic. I have to say I'm especially enjoying this disc because of Sonny Clark who sounds great, brother Tommy and Kenny Burrell who adds some real color to the festivities. I'm really diggin' this! Quote

Tom 1960 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Disc 3 of the Stanley Turrentine Mosaic. This disc features some amazing playing by Shirley Scott. Up to now I didn't own anything where she's featured on. I guess that has to change in 2008! I'm really enjoying this set. Quote
sal Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 The Bennie Green Mosaic Select - disc 3. Yet another example where taking a leap of faith on an artist I wasn't familiar with has paid back some nice dividends! Really love this Soul Stirrin' session. Quote

jazzbo Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Sonny Stitt, disc 2 So good to have a day off! Quote
six string Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 I was listening to the Turrentine set this last weekend, disc five and only the last album of that disc too. I wanted to hear an album as opposed to just listening to the entire disc, since the musicians weren't identical. I can't remember the name of the album, but it has Thad Jones on it. Of course it's amazing and I'm really glad I bought this set, since most of these albums are difficult to find around my area and I don't do much online purchasing. Quote

The name of that album is "Another Story". Hopefully I'll get around to listening to that recording tomorrow. Meanwhile, it's onto disc 4. This disc features material from the albums "In Memory Of" and "Mr. Natural". Quote
Shawn Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Onzy Matthews - Disc One. Thanks Lon! of particular note; the session with Dupree Bolton, Earl Anderza & Hadley Caliman (fuck yeah). Quote

Since I still had the box out in the living room, I played disc 2 (Jubilee Shout) last night. There are so many things to love about this collection, but last night I was focusing on Tommy Turrnetine's playing. Quote
