The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 The Amos Milburn set, LP1. Agreat one! (& no one here - including me - ever mentions it.) I wished I'd been in time to get that on CD - but I didn't want it on LP. But I've got quite a bit of Amos' Aladdin sides on various LPs and CDs. MG Quote

John Tapscott Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 all week - Art Farmer/Benny Golson/Jazztet, which arrived on Friday (great stuff, indeed!) next week - the Oliver Nelson box which should arrive this Friday Just finished the Jazztet Disc 4. This is a wonderful stuff, very consistent and interesting. Two things have really stood out for me in my listening so far - first, what a wonderful, top-drawer tenor soloist player Golson was in those days (I knew it but needed to be reminded), and secondly, what a fine trombonist Grachan Moncur 111 was in a straight-ahead, changes-oriented setting. HolyStitt Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 So far it has been a nice evening spent with the Oliver Nelson The Verve/Impulse Big Band Studio Sessions. I have heard the first 3 CDs for the first time and I am about to start the fourth. I am a little nervous about the JFK tribute but I am excited about the Pee Wee Russell material coming after. Quote
