Prompted to pull this one off the shelf last night after a friend mentioned that he’d been listening to it. The set includes a session that Getz and Raney recorded for Prestige in 1953. Are there any other Mosaic sets that include dates done for any of the labels that eventually came under the Fantasy umbrella? (Later absorbed into Concord) That catalogue always seemed to be a no-fly zone for Mosaic—I’m assuming that was because Fantasy preferred to issue their catalogue themselves. The Getz-Raney Prestige date on the Mosaic was done under Raney’s leadership… maybe that factored into Fantasy’s willingness to license when this set was being put together in 1989/90?

Listened to the whole set over the weekend. Doubt that any of the individual albums rank as "classic", but the package works really well and is one of the Mosaics I play most often.

Jim and Susan Neumann are friends and I have fond memories of listening to "pre-release" tapes in their living room.

just found a second hand copy (CDs) here in Australia - wonderful stuff - Mosaic has done quite a service wrt JT with two dedicated sets (Capitol 50s & Roulette) plus partial (Classic Capitol, Commodore, HRS, Okeh/Brunswick (Beiderbecke), Savory, V-Disc)

Finally grabbed the Bunny Berigan Brunswick/Parlophone/Vocalion set the other day. The sound quality is overall decent for the time, but many of the tracks in the first half, especially the first CD, could benefit from being redone someday due to being over-declicked, causing distortion in the hottest brass passages.

Hadn't listened to the Louis Armstrong Decca set in a while either...halfway through the first disc...also over-declicked...
