Justin V Posted October 30, 2019 Report Posted October 30, 2019 Disc 4: Berigan's trumpet is always riveting. This is Mosaic at its best. Quote

Justin V Posted November 9, 2019 Report Posted November 9, 2019 Oliver Nelson Mosaic, Disc 4: This may be only the the second time I've listened to this set in the few years I've had it, but I am loving the Pee Wee Russell album. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 9, 2019 Report Posted November 9, 2019 That's my favorite in this set! I'm not crazy about a lot of the set, but I'm crazy about Pee Wee. Quote
Bluesnik Posted November 10, 2019 Report Posted November 10, 2019 A Mosaic I keep returning to often. Pass is equally capable here on nylon or steel strings. And that's a sign of a very good guitarist. He's paired here manily with Claire Fisher or Les McCann. I prefer the former one. Although McCann is also good in a more souljazzy bag. Quote

It’s an under appreciated Mosaic. Quote

kinuta Posted November 11, 2019 Report Posted November 11, 2019 The music is great although the sound quality is all over the place, which is understandable. Worked through all the discs and am now on the final Basie session. The two Basie discs rock relentlessly, it must have been an adrenaline rush to hear them live. Quote

I can't believe this is still available. The two Basie discs are must-haves. Edited November 11, 2019 by medjuck Quote
Bluesnik Posted November 11, 2019 Report Posted November 11, 2019 Fresh from the oven. I got it today from a fellow board member. Quote

The previously unreleased quartet session with Cecil Payne, Ron Carter and Roy Haynes is face-melting. Now playing: Disc 2. I hadn't heard a ton of Berry before buying this, but so far, so good. Yes, Justin. Last night I listened to the box again, and that session struck me particularly. It's unissued except for a track that was in a sampler. Quote
