king ubu Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Played the "Master Jazz Piano" box in the morning - some very good stuff there! Maybe not much that is outstanding, but I really enjoy most of what's on it! Now: Quote
king ubu Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 starting with this one now ... not all of it is very good, but the best of is very good and much of the rest is enjoyable Quote
king ubu Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Some nice surprises here ... my taste has changed so much so in the meantime (since my last listen a few years ago) that I really enjoy the Ramparts Street Paraders this time. Matlock/Miller are mighty good (I've had a soft spot for Miller for a long time though, ever since first hearing him on the Classic Capitol set by Mosaic) and there's some pretty good stuff by others, too - George van Eps most notably (i.e. Monday Date). Still not that big on Dorsey, I'm afraid ... but I remembered the more than two discs of Ramparts as the least interesting segment of the box and it's a pleasant surprise to listen to it again! That dude on bass sax has some nice spots, too - never really noticed his name, Joe Rushton. Quote
erwbol Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Still waiting for my Cecil Taylor Mosaic to arrive. Until it does, I'm going to spend some time with the Andrew Hill set. Quote

king ubu Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 The piano one is disc 8 of course ... but I played discs 1-7 too, today - wonderful set! Quote
