king ubu Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 just got this ... spinning the Town Hall concert - great Jaki Byard opening ... very good to have all this new music (though I've got the Ulysse LPs and the Monterey 1964 double, as well as "Town Hall Concert" and the one Monterey 1965 track on the Malpaso compilation ... there's more new stuff than I'd have expected ... I really didn't even bother to look too closely since it was clear I'd get this box anyway!) Quote
king ubu Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Mingus, Concertgebouw now (discs 3 & 4) Quote

king ubu Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Half an hour of disc seven to go ... as great as expected ... and "A Lonely Day in Selma, Alabama/Freedom" on the final disc is definitely a highlight! Quote
sidewinder Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 'Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions 1953-62'. Starting with Disc VI - 'Bean and the Boys' CDs 3 and 4, Buck Clayton sessions. This box is one of the great unsung gems of Mosaic. In the car - Don Pullen Select. Quote
gmonahan Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 Disc five - Mingus at Monterey I'm listening to that one right now! Ellington medley was pretty "calm" for Mingus. "Meditations on Integration" is a bit wilder. One can hear that powerful bass driving the entire composition. Mingus was something else. gregmo Quote
