tranemonk Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Onto Disc 2 - Columbia Swing Sessions.. Ruby Braff... And I'm STILL NOT swinging... I'm kinda feeling Ron. S.'s first reaction to the same set... Although he was kind enough to give it a second whirl... We'll see about Disc 3... (just glad to off of Ruby Braff...) Quote
Victor Christensen Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Thad Jones/Mel Lewis disc 1 and 2 Great music, what a band Vic Quote
Christiern Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Storyville's latest release inthe Jubilee Shows series (No's 56 and 61). Right now, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is doing "That's All," not as d, IMO, as her Decca version, but wonderful. Quote
Ron S Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 The new Basie set - disc one. Don't forget to send me the box. Actually, I just got mine, too, and am about to start plowing through all 8 discs. Quote
tranemonk Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 columbia swing sessions - Disc 4... A tiny bit of swinging.... although I have to disagree with many of my honorable colleagues aboout the Ada Moore/Jimmy Rushing set.... Completely did not work for me... Seemed very forced and I did not get any sense of genuine chemistry between Rushing & Moore... Both seemed unenthusiatic at best... let's hope Kenny Burrell & Illinois Jacquet can save this set for me.... Quote

Ron S Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 (edited) Damn you make me jealous! Last Mosaic I spun was first disc of the Serge Chaloff I'm just surprised that nobody else other than Hank and Ed Swinnich has posted that he/she is listening to this. Someone at Mosaic told me that they had NINE HUNDRED preorders for this set. Edited May 6, 2005 by Ron S Quote
jazzbo Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Yeah, well I have this set on Japanese cds, etc. and haven't sprung for it. Perhaps quite a few people snapped up some of the recent Japanese reissues and now are kicking themselves hard (not that I am )! Maybe those preorders are actually from another source! (Whereas with the Andrew Hill set I wouldn't be surprised if a third of the preorders were from THIS BOARD!) Quote
Ron S Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Now Discs 5 and 6 of the Basie Clef/Verve Studio set (sorry, Lon )--the Joe Williams sessions. At some point before I get rid of the original Verve CD issues of these sessions, I'll have to compare the sound to this new Addey mastering. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Right now I'm listening to one of the beautiful "Mosaic like" (but with LOADS OF COLOR!) Jazz in Paris box sets, so no need to feel sorry for me! Quote
