jeffcrom
Disc three of the Ellington Capitol. The biggest surprise is a version of "In the Mood" that I actually like.

jeffcrom
Ellington Capitol, disc 5. This is a strange set. There's some brilliant stuff here, but also lots of pretty lousy tracks. Ellington and/or Capitol were trying hard for a hit record, with sometimes regrettable results ("Bunny Hop Mambo," for instance). I'm really glad to to have this set, but some tracks will seldom get played again.

Good stuff ! Art Hodes can wait another year, I guess. Same with the Commodores Vol 2 & 3 for me. Got to pace yourself with Mosaics. king ubu
Playing discs 5-7 of the Amos Milburn now - love it! Sure, I will most likely take it in small doses in the future (and I'll want to listen while reading up the sessions one day, too... just read the introductory essay so far). paul secor
Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions - disc 2 - Nappy Lamare, Eddie Miller, Ray Bauduc, Marvin Ash I was a bit wary before I listened to these sides, but I found there was a fair amount to enjoy, even if I wouldn't classify any of it as classic. king ubu
Enjoying the Benny Goodman Capitol Small Group that I had in the mail today! Haven't started playing the music yet, but around a third is familiar from the Capitol Trios, In Hi-Fi and BG Story Reissues. Good to have it all now! Again, new set (no # in the booklet, the box a bit damaged, but got it for a good price so I won't complain!)
jeffcrom
Ellington Capitol, disc four. Now that I've listened to the whole set, I'll usually be skipping some of the lesser tracks. I still can't get over "Bunny Hop Mambo."
