mellowT
Disk #1: Disks # 2 & 3. 3 is the best, IMHO. Interesting. Disc 3 is the only one I couldn't get through. There's a point on track 1 where Carter is trying to hit the upper register of his clarinet and not quite reaching it. For a former musician, it left me cringing. king ubu
Enjoying the thought that I'll soon get The Complete Master Jazz Piano Series (to add to my pile of as yet unhread music )
Dave James
The newly released Ahmad Jamal. Great stuff. Marc Myers at jazzwax.com had the perfect description of his sound. "He plays piano like someone just dumped a sack of mice on the keyboard." Perfect.
tranemonk
Not too happy with Stan Kenton Capitol Sessions (Disc 6) <_< After reading Straight Life I was intrigued by Art Pepper's days with Kenton... then... I found an opened copy of this OOP on amazon for a decent price... Liked the Anita and Christy stuff early in the set (Discs 1 - 3 or so)... but by Disc 5.... :(
