Ron S Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Ahhh, but have you seen the announcement of the William Shatner set? Oh man, I can see a whole Mosaic "Complete Original Star Trek 1960's Sessions" developing from this, including: the lost Nichelle Nichols/George Takei Duets, the famous "Leonard Nimoy Sings Black Sabbath" sessions, the breakout double-LP "James Doohan Plays Monk on Bagpipes," and of course DeForest Kelley's haunting tribute to JJ Johnson, "Bones on Bone." mgraham333 Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 It's OOP Friday. I'm listening to Blue Mitchell and Curtis Fuller. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 Capitol Gene Krupa/Harry James disk 7. Some lovely Ernie Wilkins arrangements for the James band on this one and superbly recorded by Capitol. No qualms whatsoever re: the Mosaic CD mastering on ths one. Lovely. Quote

Sundog Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 3 (Has anyone else gotten this yet?) I came home today and much to my surprise found a package from Mosaic on my front steps. A surprise gift from my Dad. I will be checking this one out very shortly. Quote

eamesonly Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I've been a west coast connossieur of the pacific jazz sets which led me to the Django? Yeah I can't quite figure it out. But just received it on Monday and really enjoying it. Quote
mgraham333 Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Jazztet/Golson/Farmer. Every time I put this one in I kick myself for overlooking Art Farmer for so long. Disc 5 is one of my favorites. Quote
sal Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Max Roach - disc 4.. Woahhhh....Booker Little! What a loss to music his death was... Quote
mgraham333 Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Sal: how do you like the set overall? What are a couple of sets you would rank above and below it. Thanks. Quote
mgraham333 Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I've got Elvin Jones playing today. I'm on disc 3. I don't think I'm going to make it all the way through at the office today. I've had too many interruptions that have required me to stop the music. And UP for Sal's comments on the Max Roach. Quote

DrJ Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Woody Herman Capitol recordings. I started at the end with the Las Vegas Herd stuff - and I love it. Wonderful. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted February 19, 2005 Report Posted February 19, 2005 Disc 5 of the Joe Pass set. I don't pull this one out much and really should. That 'Joy Spring' number w/Jim Hughart is a nice little tune for starters.......they've got a good groove going with that one. Quote
