jeffcrom
The George Lewis sessions from The Atlanic New Orleans Jazz Sessions. One thing I love about these Lewis recordings is that there are hardly any solos - when one horn takes the lead, the others will often keep playing secondary parts. jazzbo
Crosby. I'm taking it in small doses because the instrumentation and approach is so consistent disc to disc. I really like it, but an hour at a time is more than enough. Glad you're enjoying it TM. Now it's time to get the Armstrong.

mellowT
Stanley Turrentine - Blue Note Quintet/Sextet Studio Sessions I used to be bonkers over this set, but I unfortunately overplayed it (along with the Blue Mitchell set). It's been about a year and a half since I've listened to it all the way through. Sweet!

Tom 1960
Ditto on the above. Just finished listening to disc 1 and now onto disc 2. What a great collection of music so far. Thanks to ejp626(Eric) whom I recently purchased this set from. An excellent acquisition it seems.

six string
I just received the Complete Monk at The It Club 4lp set a few days ago. I've only heard three sides so far but the music's great and the vinyl is free of defects and dead quiet. Even the occasional audience sounds are not disruptive. It adds a little of that "you are there" vibe to the music.

Tom, I have finished listening to the whole set for the first time in several years. You may have to swallow hard when you get to some of the pop tunes. They don't go down easy (at least with me). But I guess that's what big bands had to do in the late '60's/early 70's in order to survive (or get record dates). And all in all, Wilson does a pretty good job with them. Still, I consider them a blemish on an otherwise very good set. Edited December 16, 2009 by John Tapscott

jeffcrom
The HRS set, which arrived yesterday. As some of you guys promised, the sound is much better than other issues of this material that I've heard. I'm looking forward to delving into some of the less familiar sessions. Matthew
Oscar Peterson. Disk two. My first listen, as I bought this set this morning, and I love it. Great, swinging music. It made me order the Canadian box thingy.

ghost of miles
Revisiting the Artie Shaw and finally listened to disc 6 of the Jazz Passengers set, which I've had for a couple of years. That's a very good/underrated set for straightahead 1960s hardbop.
