take5 Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Donald Byrd & Pepper Adams complete Blue Note. My first listen of this set and my first time hearing Byrd as a leader. Damn that boy can play some horn! Quote
sal Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Dizzy Reece Select - Disc 3 Soon to be followed by JJ Johnson, disc 4 Quote
king ubu Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Have been lying in bed since Sunday, went - for the very first time - through discs 1 to 17 of the Ducal RCA box. Right now: the Bud Freeman sessions on Disc 4 of the Capitol Mosaic, before that the whole disc 1 of the same set. Will stay with it for a while listening to some select sessions, some still are new to me. ubu Quote
Ron S Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 COLUMBIA SMALL GROUP SWING SESSIONS, Disc I. Yep, you read that right. Just got it. Quote
king ubu Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 Have gotten immesurable joy from listening to discs 4-6 of the Django set! What a great musician he was! ubu Quote
Ron S Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 3--so far, on first listen in order from the beginning, this is my favorite disc (first 2 discs have Ruby Braff as leader). Listening right now to Buck Clayton with the Marlowe Morris Trio (organ, guitar, drums)--really swings. Quote
LAL Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Gerald Wilson disc 1 - some excellent playing by Harold Land, Joe Maini, Richard Groove Holmes and Joe Pass, not forgetting the arrangements. Quote
brownie Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Tal Farlow, disc 2. The quartet session with Claude Williamson and the ensemble session with Bob Enevoldsen, Bill Perkins and Bob Gordon! Quote
Ron S Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 5--Illinois Jacquet sessions. Not surprisingly, these REALLY swing, and include some great solos from the likes of Roy Eldridge. Quote
Ron S Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 6--Kenny Burrell/Illinois Jacquet sessions--still swingin'. Quote
Ron S Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 7--Herb Ellis. Guess which disc is next. Quote
Brad Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 7--Herb Ellis. Guess which disc is next. You're going back to number 4? Quote
Ron S Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 7--Herb Ellis. Guess which disc is next. You're going back to number 4? Good catch! But wrong guess. For some reason, I posted in the general "What are you listening to right now" thread when I was listening to Disc 4. Next up is the last but not least Disc 8. Incidentally, the Herb Ellis-led sessions I'm listening to now on Disc 7 are outstanding. This may end up being my favorite disc in this set. Quote
Ron S Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Finally--Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions, Disc 8--Ben Webster and Harry "Sweets" Edison. Great so far. Quote
gslade Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Complete BlueNote Sam Rivers Disc#1 Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 I've been enjoying the Bud Shank set this morning. I love having my hard drive full of high-bitrate Mosaic set mp3s. It so much easier than fishing out the sets themselves. :rsmile: Quote
GA Russell Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 Curtis Fuller, Disc 1. I have this set since April of 2000, and I've never been moved to open up another disc. It's a good Blue Note session, but not exciting. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 I am neck deep in the Complete Jim Nabors Columbia Sessions. I know at 14 discs, it's a huge set, but his music just brings tears to my eyes. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 So far... I have enjoyed all the Select sets I have heard. This new one is a real disappointment. Quote
Ron S Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 Somebody has WAAAAAAAY too much free time. Quote
