Van Basten II
Going through The Complete Woody Herman Columbia (1945-7) Could have done without the Christmas tune in June
sidewinder
Right now, the excellent Jazz Crusaders set. Totally agree, Jazzbo. This group were very under-rated. And the music throughout the set is consistently good - from the early sessions through to 'Powerhouse' and 'Uh Huh'.
jazzbo
What I find neat is that you can go through the set and hear a track and say "Ah, they've studied the John Coltrane Quartet." And then the next track you say to yourself "I hear they've been listening to Horace Silver!" And the next track, "Wow, that's very Cannonball!" And the next track "Here comes an Eddie Harris inspired tune!" And they're all good tracks, all have a distinct Jazz Crusaders thing going as well as the structure or style of these other bands. Also: Felder was a monster player.

shaft
Also about the Crusaders please don't forget to pick up the 3 Crusaders titles on Motown. They are great but not easy to find. Sorry for the OT on Mosaic. /Shaft

Shawn
Was listening to the Dizzy Reece earlier today and was happy to hear that the Star Bright session sounds much better than the JRVG (which sounded like flat Coke). Great music of course...
Cliff Englewood
This afternoon: Art Pepper Select - the session with Bill Perkins That is a, quite frankly, fuckin' great session. Wish there was more of Pepper from this era with players like Perkins, eg Zoot, Kamuca etc, etc.
