tranemonk Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Quincy Jones set... Disc 3.. I know some on this board warned me... I'm finding it is a bit of a disappointment.... Some who are on the fence about this one... might want to wait... Quote

sidewinder Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Just spinning Dizzy Gillespie "Verve Philips" (that guy again ) CD 6. Some great arrangements from Tom McIntosh on the earlier tracks (with fine quintet performances from Msrs Gillespie, Barron and Moody in particular). The Double Six of Paris tracks take a bit more getting into for me but starting to dig it. Quote
tranemonk Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Many of the arrangements are quite predictable and unimaginative... I listen to this and all I can hear in my head is ... "this is NOT Oliver Nelson." <_< Quincy Jones set... Disc 3.. I know some on this board warned me... I'm finding it is a bit of a disappointment.... The Live sections are MUCH better than the studio stuff... overall I'm disappointed... <_< Started Dizzy set Disc 1....and as I expected :excited: :excited: :excited: Is there anyone left on this board who hasn't gotten the Dizzy set??? Quote
Ron S Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Is there anyone left on this board who hasn't gotten the Dizzy set??? Yep. I'm currently on a strict "running low" diet when it comes to Mosaics (unless, of course, a terrific deal on one of the Universal sets happens to come my way ). Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 negative... Guess you're not a big Nelson fan, Chuck? I was a fan of the early Prestige and Impulse recordings. Later he seemed to find some sort of "Oliver Nelson cut and paste book". The Verve date called Full Nelson was my first alert to this. Quincy had earlier followed a similar path to greater financial rewards. Quote
