golfcrazy1984 Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions. Disk 6. This is a great set, that sadly doesn't get much play. Gonna try to fix that this evening! Quote
Face of the Bass Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Disc 1, finally, after a long search. This music makes me indescribably happy. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Lunceford Mosaic. Disk 6. Nice band!!! Even after Snooky and Willie Smith left. Cool arrangements. As far as the Mosaic packaging is concerned, the booklet is very informative and the remastering is excellent. Quote
LAL Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Yesterday, all 3CDs of the Charles Tolliver Select. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Onzy Matthews Select CDs 1-3 - A thoroughly excellent set. Later on 'Kenton/Holman/Russo' LP set. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Parlan Disk 4. Grant Green is SWINGIN'! That was a hell of a band. Quote
mr jazz Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Roy Eldridge and Dizzy-Disc 3 from the Eldridge set followed by Disc 4 from the Dizzy set. Trumpet perfection! Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Lester Young/Count Basie Mosaic. "Lester Leaps In". Prez was one of the best (and the first). I think I will be celebrating the tenor greats in anticipation of the new Coleman Hawkins Mosaic!!!! Quote
sidewinder Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Larry Young, CD5. 'Majestic Soul' etc. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 J.J. Johnson Mosaic. "Full Moon & Empty Arms". This is a beautiful set, also JJ is one of the top trombonists of all time, in my opinion. Disc 1, finally, after a long search. This music makes me indescribably happy. How do you like this set? I know a lot of people rank it near the top of Mosaics. I missed out on this and I can't justify paying OOP prices on this... One day though!!! Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 The first Tolliver select set, I love it. Thanks to board members who set me on it (and yes, lots of great Stanley Cowell throughout). I waited a long time to buy it from Mosaic when it came back in print and it is listed again as endangered. So don't wait. Quote

So many songs on it that there's always one to fit your mood. Quote

golfcrazy1984 Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Listening to my recently purchased Maynard Ferguson Roulette Mosaic set! Woah...! That's a band. Found an "affordable" copy on Amazon, and pulled the trigger. Glad to have this music finally. Just wish I was old enough to have purchased it from Mosaic for less $. Same goes for the Count Basie Roulette Studio set... But I am soooooo glad to finally have this set. Great sound, great musicians and arrangements. Listening to "Secret Love" now on my iPhone. Quote
Shawn Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 The Anita O'Day set is wonderful, one of the Mosaic's I've revisited the most (along with the Mobley) Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Maynard Roulette Disk 5, "This Masquerade is Over". HOLY SHIT, this band is kickin' Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Today is a Mosaic Saturday: Maynard, then disk 5 of the Horace Parlan, a little Benny Goodman big band, Oliver Nelson and now am on Sam Rivers "Secret Love", next I think will be Mobley. WONDER how much longer Hank Mobley will last?!?! I mean it's been around a long time. Everyone who wanted it must have bought it by now. I mean I'm glad that it's still available, since it's a great set, but MAN. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Duke Ellington "The Reprise Studio Recordings" "Fiddler on the Diddle" Ray Nance on violin, the SAXOPHONE section and drums and bass swingin' away! I could listen to that all day. Sam Woodyard's brushes are some of the best. Quote
